Some of you may know our renal care assistant in Arbroath, Allyson Teviotdale. Allyson's son Charley will be throwing himself out of a plane on June 21st, something your editor here wouldn't consider doing in a month of sundays. Hes raising funds in aid of Tayside Kidney Patients Association, an organisation that does an awful lot for kidney patients and their families and they badly need your support. A cheque for £500 from Provincial Grand Lodge of Forfarshire Good Causes Fund was presented yesterday afternoon to Tayside Kidney Patients Association by Robert Burns Lodge of Dundee No 1788. Pictured are RWM Steven Alexander and WSW George Lyall along with Audrey McHugh, Chairperson and Amanda Vaughan, Treasurer.

The Association expressed their gratitude for this welcome donation to their coffers. They are entirely self funding through various Association local initiatives. A very worthy cause indeed.

Kidney Care UK will be running their annual Young Adult Weekend on Sept 4th to 7th. at Mount Cook Adventure Centre in Derbyshire and registration is now open. You will find more information including how to register at the Kidney Care site, here:

Kidney Care UK's annual Young Adult Weekend is a FREE event for young people aged 18-30 who have a kidney condition to try new activities, make friends, and have fun.

We celebrated International Nurses day today in the Ninewells unit. Sarah provided yoga taster sessions and hand massages, we had a drop in (with food!!!) and had a 'Thank you' board.

TIME TO REMEMBER MEMORIAL SERVICE

NHS Tayside, in conjunction with NHS Blood and Transplant (NHSBT), is hosting our annual "Time to Remember" Memorial Service for those in Tayside who are donor families, transplant recipients, medical and nursing staff, and local supporters of organ and tissue donation.

Members of the NHS Organ and Tissue Donation Committee decided they would like to offer those affected by organ and tissue donation an opportunity to come together to remember and reflect on those who have been generous in making this life-saving gift to others.

We would like to invite you to this Memorial Service on Thursday 21 May 2026 at the Chaplaincy Centre, University of Dundee, Cross Row, Dundee DD1 5HG. The service is planned to be around 45 minutes in duration and will start promptly at 7.00pm (those attending should be seated by 6.45pm). Refreshments will be provided afterwards.

The Renal Service marked World Kidney Day with a very successful information stand in the main concourse. Many thanks to everyone who helped out.

Thursday 12th March is World Kidney Day, a day when we celebrate those who have donated their kidneys and remember those who are waiting for a life-saving kidney transplant.

Last year, over 2,000 organ transplants were kidneys, but there are still almost 7,000 people waiting for a kidney transplant today.

Sadly, the reality is that someone will die waiting for a kidney. By confirming your decision on the NHS Organ Donor Register, in just 2 minutes, you could end up saving a life.
