Too much salt can raise blood pressure over time. 🫀

Stock cubes, ready-made sauces, and seasoning blends are often higher in salt than we realise.

Swapping them for herbs, garlic, ginger, chilli, onions, or reduced-salt stock keeps meals full of flavour while easing the strain on your heart. 🍲

Small kitchen swaps like this can support healthier blood pressure and heart health over time.

Heart and circulation conditions affect millions of people across the UK, often developing quietly over time. 🤫

High blood pressure, raised cholesterol, diabetes, smoking, inactivity, and poor sleep are all factors that increase risk, even when someone feels well. Taking time to understand these risks can help people make informed choices earlier.

February is a good reminder to check in on heart health and learn more about prevention.

If you’re in your 20s or 30s, type 2 diabetes might feel like something to think about later in life. But more young adults in the UK are now being diagnosed than ever before.

Around 12,000 people under 30 are living with type 2 diabetes, and many are diagnosed in their 20s.

Risk is higher for people with a family history of diabetes and for those from certain ethnic backgrounds, including South Asian and Black communities. Stress, long working hours, and everyday barriers to healthy choices can also increase risk.

Knowing your personal risk and understanding the early signs can help you take action sooner.

Small food choices can make a real difference over time. 🕓✨

Sam Griffiths, Advanced Clinical Practitioner in Diabetes talks about everyday swaps that can support heart and gut health, without overcomplicating things.

This includes cutting back on sugary drinks and sweet treats 🧁, and choosing wholemeal bread, rice, and pasta instead of white options 🌾.

They also highlight the importance of adding more nuts, seeds, fruit, and vegetables to support fibre intake and bowel health. 🍎🥦

These changes do not need to be perfect. Small, steady steps can still make a difference.

Everyone’s journey looks different, and starting where you are matters.

Are you relying on feeling well to judge your heart health? 🛑

It is a common mistake, but it is a risky one. You can feel perfectly well while having dangerously high blood pressure or cholesterol. This is why these conditions are often called silent killers.

High blood pressure (hypertension) and high cholesterol usually have no noticeable symptoms. The only reliable way to know if your numbers are healthy is to get them checked by a healthcare professional. 👩‍⚕️

Do not rely on how you feel. Take the simple step of getting tested and know your risk.

What are the 3️⃣ essentials for living well with CVD?

If you are managing a cardiovascular condition, consistency is key. There are three simple, vital areas to focus on that make the biggest difference to your long-term health:

💊 Medication: Taking your prescribed medication exactly as directed.

🍎 Eating Well: Making mindful choices about your diet, focusing on healthy eating patterns.

👩‍⚕️ Appointments: Keeping all your clinical appointments to ensure your care is on track.

These commitments are essential for managing conditions like hypertension and cholesterol. Making these choices every day supports your heart and helps you live better.
