The importance of effective rehabilitation??
🏃🏾‍♀️ In 8 weeks I've managed to go from walking boot to half marathon, but its not that simple. Also I am not suggesting this is a standard time frame for other people or varied situations
☘️ I realise I have been very lucky to be in a position to heal and return to some running so quickly.

🩼 I also want to note that I am not fixed, am not finished with my rehab, and am still stop-start with my progress. That's kind of the point here- rehab never really stops.

DM any rehab questions or suggestions ☎️

🩺Special thanks to .studio & for signposting me through my rehab so far

Time to take my own advice!
If you've ever done a first aid course youll have heard about RICE, but not many people really know that RICE has been upgraded to PRICE, (and if ive read it right recently, may be getting another upgrade)
But PRICE in itself causes some confusion

**** for the first 48-73 hours after an injury****

Protect: Prevent further injury by using supports like casts, braces, or crutches.
P may also be Progressive Overload- key word being Progressive!
*(Though rest is essential, complete immobilisation can cause further problems and slows the removal of swelling, reduces circulation, etc, and increases the risk of DVT and other complications)
SO… gradually putting the joint under some weight, and increasing the load VERY slowly, (while listening to any discomfort and pain,) will also benefit in the long run.

Rest: Avoid activities that aggravate the injury to allow the body to heal. Take it easier than normal, but move where you can and when you need to.

Ice: Apply ice packs to the injured area to reduce swelling and inflammation. Use ice for 10-15 minutes at a time, several times a day.

Compression: Use a bandage to wrap the injured area, providing support and further limiting swelling.

Elevation: Raise the injured area above the heart to help reduce swelling and encourage fluid drainage.

Having a fluffy assistant to help with rest and protection helps a lot too 🐶 ❤️
