I found this poem and it reminded me of the purpose of our asana practice - so that we can become still and in that stillness find our way home to ourselves.

Another week in our Begin to Restore class diving into ways to support our nervous system for full regulation and rest. We also look at themes related to these support mechanisms.

This week - self compassion. The practice of speaking to and about ourselves with a softer and kinder lens. Accepting that flaws and imperfections are a part of what makes us human.

It’s hard to unlearn years of listening to the inner critic, but with gentle reminders and little by little - be kinder to yourself everyday.

Lessons from January:

1. This period of being quiet and slow is not a waste. Stillness helps us integrate our experiences and grow.
2. Meet yourself where you are, without forcing or rushing.
3. Small consistent practice wins over big promises and grand gestures.
4. Learn to loosen your grip on the things you can’t control.
5. January can feel like it’s 95 days long and still fly by in a blink.

Join me on Thursday mornings at Loughshore Community Services in Moortown for Chair Yoga.

Chair Yoga is suitable for everyone and a perfect way to improve mobility. Staying mobile and physically strong is key for our health and independence as we get older and our classes are designed with this in mind.

2016. Deeply in the middle of my 200hr teacher training. 🕉️ Two kids and no concrete plans for any more 🤷🏻‍♀️ A year that saw sadness and loss, friendships forged and fortified and general roller-coasting through family and office life.

Also the year we made the mistake of bringing that bloomin elf into the house.

So so much has changed and yet….

2026 deeply in the middle of plans to take a teacher training, concrete plans - no more children. Friendships valued more than words can say. Still roller-coasting through life.

What if rest was seen as the beginning and not the end? As that thing we needed in order to be our best rather than what we might get do if we earn it.

Our Begin to Restore class and our monthly Yin & Restore sessions are spaces to explore rest, deeply and completely.

My new year is very much surrendering to this idea of rest as a beginning - this time I need to take to recover from seasonal sickness and let the beginnings arrive quietly and in their own time.

WHAT IF REST WAS A BEGINNING, NOT AND ENDING?
