The Covid-19 Durham Facebook is now closing! We would like to thank each and everyone one of you, almost 15,000 followers for choosing our page to keep up to date on Covid-19 in County Durham.

Our page has achieved it’s goal and across its lifetime has reached 500,000 people (the equivalent of County Durham Population).

Now that Covid-19 is in general circulation, we have minimal restrictions on our day to day lives, and routine testing and outbreak reporting has all but ceased, we no longer see the need for a dedicated Covid-19 page.

We hope this is goodbye for the last time, but if there is another outbreak of covid-19 or lockdown restrictions, we remain ready to resume reporting at anytime.

Thanks once again for your support over the past 2 years.

BREAKING NEWS

People in England will no longer have to self-isolate after testing positive for coronavirus by the end of next week, Downing Street has said.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson is set to announce the decision on Monday, which also applies to close contacts, as he moves to scrap all remaining COVID-19 restrictions.

When he unveils his "living with COVID" plan, he is expected to tell MPs that the vaccine programme, testing and new treatments will be enough to keep the public safe.

All children aged 5-11 in UK will be offered coronavirus vaccine

Health Secretary Sajid Javid confirmed that the UK government's vaccine advisory body - the Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation (JCVI) - had advised the jab rollout be expanded to ensure everyone in that cohort is eligible for the jab and that ministers have taken on board this recommendation.

He added that the NHS in England will "prepare to extend this non-urgent offer to all children during April".
