It was initially designed for children who have motor disorders of neurological origin such as cerebral palsy but has since expanded to support a wide range of children, including those with Dyspraxia and Down Syndrome.

Today I attend the second and final full day of National Portage Association - NPA training.

It was a fantastic training course and it was lovely to be in a room with other like minded professionals.

I also discovered more similarities between Conductive Education and Portage. I kept thinking throughout it, this is just how we think in Conductive Education!

Such as how we both use positive language to describe the learners we are working with.

We both break down goals into small achievable steps.

We both understand their sensory needs and how they process information.

We both believe that every person can learn and we just need to find the right way to teach them.

And many more!

I am looking forward to incorporating the Portage principles into my sessions.

Earlier this year you may have seen my posts showing you what's in my story bags.

Although the story bags were fine, I still felt like they were missing something to further develop leaning.

I’ve spent the last few months reviewing every resource I own.

Looking, buying and creating new resources to support children in their learning as dual coding is so important.

This is by using both physical objects and visuals to help children process information but also support their communication.

I have already shared a few and I'll be sharing more with you. Let me know what which ones your favourite do far.

Let's continue to bloom and flourish together!

How is Conductive Education different from other therapies

Let's find out

Conductive Education may look like Pysiotherapy but it integrates parts of Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy, Speech and Language Therapy and Education into a unique method of learning.

For example, during a task focused on independent sitting, we aren't just working on physical posture. We may simultaneously be targeting educational goals, such as colour sorting or problem-solving.

Did you know that May is Stroke awareness month.

Conductive Education can help Stroke recovery as it is based on the idea of neuroplasticity—that the brain can be "re-wired" through conscious, intentional practice.

Conductive Education is about learning, not treatment as we holistically integrate the physical tasks with cognitive, emotional, and social learning.

If you're looking for an approach that unlocks your potential Conductive Education offers that unique blend.

We had lots of fun today playing with my The Very Hungry Caterpillar story bag in today's Conductive Education session.

We read the story and had a look at all the interactive elements that I have to go with the story such as the Caterpillar, fruit and Butterfly.

The story bag also includes various tasks and activities that go with the story such as a Caterpillar Jigsaw, threading and colour sorting fruit and vegetables.

We did these tasks not just in sitting but also using the peanut ball.

I love using my story bags in my Conductive Education sessions as motivation plays a key role in every child's journey.

Today was the first day of my National Portage Association - NPA training.

For those that don't know Portage is an educational service for SEND children (depending on local area this could be up until the ages of 3 or 5 years old) and their families.

In my training today I discovered that there was lots of similarities between Portage and Conductive Education.

Our sessions are both play based to support childrens development in all areas such as communication, play, and social skills.

We both believe in a whole child approach, including their family and community. By also working together with other professionals.

Taking small achievable steps to reach goals. This can be seen in the Conductive Education Task Series.

Celebrating success, diversity and inclusion.

We also had a lovely talk from Tracey and Haley from Choice Wellbeing Service CIC about their experience with Portage.

I am looking forward to next week for the next session to deepen my knowledge of the Portage model and use it to support the children I see in my sessions.

I am curious to know what your experience of Portage has been like?
