The only reason I’m coming out in this weather is to teach my Yoga classes! They always put a smile on my face and bring me so much joy to teach.

A huge thank you to everyone that has been to any of my classes this week. It’s so lovely to see both new and returning people each week.

Chair yoga is a more accessible form of yoga, allowing people of all abilities to practice. It is often slower paced and of course uses a chair and other props to enable people to enter into different poses.

Today’s class was healed in Eaglesfield Public Hall and we started by warming up all areas of the body, gradually building up some heat, then we practiced some Surya Namaskars (sun salutations) and then we did another sequence that focused on opening up the hips gently before a cool down, ending in a savasana and a guided meditation.

What is Restorative Yoga?

It is a gentle practice that uses props such as bolster cushions, blocks, straps and blankets to support us during positions that we hold for longer periods of time.

In taking our time mindfully, it helps to engage the parasympathetic nervous system, also referred to as the rest and digest system. It allows us to fully relax, digest food, lower our heart rate and slow our breathing down. This is vital in today’s world with the stresses that our mind and body are under.

Another evening and it’s even started in the daylight 😍

A lovely class this evening Waterbeck Village Hall that focused on balance, not only physical balance but a balance between the sun and the moon, the masculine and the feminine and right and the left.

Followed by a lovely, relaxed restorative class that focused on opening the hips and stretching the side body.

Well I think I can call tonight’s vinyasa class At Eaglesfield hall a success?!
We had a natter, lots of giggles and even did a bit of yoga! All ending with a well earned savasana.

Yoga should be (in my opinion) about community and bringing people together, then it should be about bringing them back to their bodies.

Thank you to everyone who came to one of this evenings practices (or both! 🥰), what a lovely evening spent getting all the excess movement out and then followed by a lovely relaxed restorative class after.

Starting 6-7 Vinyasa flow to get us moving

Followed by 7:15-8:15 Restorative Yoga to wind down and release into asana (poses), which is great for the parasympathetic nervous system and can have a whole host of other benefits!

So what is chair yoga you may be asking! Well nothing is lost by using props in your yoga practice, in fact much can be gained. As many of you know that I actively encourage their use, and now including the humble chair!

Chair Yoga offers a safe, accessible way to move the body with awareness and ease. It is particularly supportive for those with reduced mobility, medical considerations, or physical limitations that make mat-based classes challenging. It also provides a simple way to introduce gentle, mindful movement into your day, without the need to get down to the floor.

I will be hoping to start the following morning classes in March:

Tuesday 10:30am till 11:30am at Eaglesfield Hall (DG11 3PA)
Wednesday 10:30am till 11:30am at Middlebie Hall (DG11 3JW)
