I have spoken a lot this week about the various products and services I offer as The Placenta Lady! Here are two examples: an umbilical cord keepsake, shaped into a heart and a placenta print-this one in a fine-line finish.

Prints are also available fresh, with colour, or finished with gold leaf. Depending on their length and thickness, cords can be shaped into hearts, spirals or words, such as 'love'.

You can request a print or keepsake as a unique addition to your capsules. I don't offer these services as a stand alone service, except in special circumstances.

These statistics have been shared by a local hospital trust. It's prompted me to ask a few questions...

I asked:

❓From an education perspective (I'm an antenatal teacher) I wonder: what is being done to support more pool and home births in the area?

❓What reasons were given for the offers of induced labour? I'd love to see these stats.

❓How many induced labours ended in C-section?

❓How might you look to reduce the number of C-section births? 48% at Bassetlaw and 56% at Doncaster is higher than the national average (42%).

😱C-section rates are rapidly increasing nationwide—a significant increase from 29% five years prior. I believe the UK is experiencing one of the fastest increases in C-section rates in Europe—and it worries me.

I've commented on the post and look forward to their response. I'll report back...

👉🏼Perhaps you've seen similar statistics shared by other hospital trusts. I'd be interested to have a look if you have any to share.

One of my Doula UK sisters, Trudi Dawson, was recently interviewed by Sky News about what it's like being a doula. It's often hard to describe what we doulas do! As Trudi says, no two days (or nights!) are ever the same!

In the article it mentions how 'Doulas tend to be a... very supportive and collaborative bunch.' I couldn't agree with this more! Every doula brings with them a unique set of skills and experience. Joining forces with other local doulas, as well as trusted bump, birth and baby specialists, helps create that feeling of 'a village' to wrap around our clients - and us, too!

If we've not yet met... Hello! I'm Helen Wright, proud Founder of BirthWright. I am fanatical about pregnancy, birth & parenthood and supporting you on your journey through matrescence: the process of becoming a mother.

When I became a mother, EVERYTHING shifted: physically, psychologically and emotionally. I quit my career in education and in 2016, BirthWright was born. I now help others to navigate this seismic shift, from conception onwards. I do this through my work as an antenatal & hypnobirthing teacher, birth and postnatal doula, placenta specialist, emotional health coach and family MeetUp host.
