My top tips and resources as a legal professional, specialising in education law.

I understand that it can be overwhelming to navigate the education, healthcare and legal system to ensure your child receives the support they need.
With the right resources and knowledge, you can become the strongest advocate for your child.

Here are some tips and resources, that I regularly recommend to parents, on how to support and advocate for your special needs child in the UK:

1. Understand your child’s needs

2. Know your legal rights

3. Build relationships with professionals

4. Be persistent

*********************Covid – 19 Update********************

As you are all aware, sadly we are heading back into lockdown on Thursday. I just wish to reassure my Embrace parents and clients of Rebecca Whippy SEND Consultants that both the Embrace Law Service and respite service will remain open, as will my own Consultancy practice.

As an Officer of the Court I am a frontline worker, as an education and respite service Embrace weekend club is a “wraparound service” and exempt from closure.

I will be looking next week at further ways to mitigate risk to our staff, families and clients, but in the meantime ask that if you wish to continue using our services that you minimise the risk to yourself of coming into contact with Covid – 19.

Many of our community (including myself) have disorders that mean they can become very sick if they come into contact with this virus. So please if your child is sick, keep them off from club and please also stick to any government guidance issued concerning lockdown.

If you would like to see what the new guidance says on Childcare and children’s activities please see below:-

“Parents will still be able to access some registered childcare and other childcare activities (including wraparound care) where reasonably necessary to enable parents to work, or for the purposes of respite care…………………………Some youth services may be able to continue, such as 1-1 youth work and support groups, but most youth clubs and groups will need to cease for this period”.

In the meantime love and best wishes to you all and please stay safe.
