Working from home can be a great benefit for many reasons, but it is not always good for your back or neck. There is a tendency to stay sitting and still for long periods of time which means it is considerably more likely to feel pain in these areas. To reduce this risk it is a good idea to move at least every hour for 5 minutes and if you have been given stretches by your osteopath or health professional try to spend just a few minutes doing them 3 times a day.
For more specific advise or if you are suffering regular pain in these areas, please do call us to arrange an appointment. 01323 723887.

Putting regular movement into your day can help prevent chronic pain in your lower back. Even 5 minutes movement every hour will help. More is better. Quite simply the less we move the stiffer we feel, the more we move the looser we feel and usually better in ourselves too.

Sitting for longer periods of time is particularly bad for your back and neck. Similar to being in bed your joints can become stiff and are therefore more likely to be strained with a consequential increased chance of pain in these areas. Try to move regularly throughout the day to minimise the effect of being immobile. A good rule of thumb would be to make sure you get up and move at least every 45 minutes.

Following the previous advice concerning the fact it is easier to strain your back first thing in the morning, if you have to bend over at this time try using an arm to support some of your weight and at least partially bend your knees if possible to crouch. This reduces the strain on your back and makes it less likely to create back pain.

04/12/2023

You are much more likely to strain your lower back first thing in the morning because of being relatively immobile whilst asleep. Before bending at all after getting out of bed try to move around and perhaps have a hot shower or bath before you do

Crouching instead bending over can help prevent strain on the lower back.

The aim of my clinic is to provide fast access to osteopathic treatment to alleviate a variety of mechanical pain that can arise from the joints, especially in the lower back, neck, shoulders, and knees.
We try to limit treatment numbers that patients need by giving lifestyle advice and one or two exercises to help. These measures do not take much time out a patient’s day and it has been found that if patients follow this advice, they usually only need 3 to 4 treatments. We feel this is the most cost-effective way to help reduce pain. For further information please visit www.walshosteopathy.co.uk or call 01323 723887

Suffering from generalised aches and pains? We aim to provide high quality osteopathic care in a friendly environment, giving time, treatment, and advice to each patient.
