What does being 'Fit' actually mean?
For many people, 'fit' brings to mind running marathons or lifting weights - but real fitness is much simpler (and for more meaningful) than that.
Being fit means supporting your long-term health and wellbeing
It means having the strength, mobility, and energy to enjoy daily life - and protecting yourself from preventable illness linked to inactivity, like heart disease, type 2 diabetes, and some cancers.
The good news? You don't need to spend hours in the gym to make a massive difference.
According to UK Government guidelines, adults only need:
✅ 150 minutes of moderate activity per week (a brisk 30-minute walk, 5 days a week)
OR
✅ 75 minutes of vigorous activity
PLUS
💪 Strength training twice a week (yes - bodyweight counts!)
🎯Fitness is achievable for everyone - the benefits are huge:
Regular physical activity can:
👉Reduce mortality risk by up to 30%
👉Improve management of long-term health conditions like diabetes, arthritis, cardiovascular disease, COPD and depression
👉 Enhance strength, balance, and independence for older adults
👉 Support people living with disabilities, improving functional movement, mood, confidence and overall quality of life
👉 Boost energy, sleep, mental wellbeing and resilience
Movement doesn't have to be intense or complicated.
Every step, every stretch, every active minute counts.
Start where you are. Move in ways that work for YOUR body.
Your future self will thank you.
