DEMENTIA AND HOSPITALS
We are carrying out research on how caring for someone who has dementia and admitted to hospital needs to be changed based on carers/families experiences.

Additionally we are researching and making suggestions for change on how people living with dementia needs are met in the transistion process from Hospital to home.

We will use the results to share with our partners and seek a period of change in the discharge process and also how those with dementia are supported in hospitals

Your feedback would be appreciated

You don't write a will for yourself - you write it for your loved ones.

If you need to update or create a new will use our member exclusive our free service..
This is a membership perk: you do not have to leave us anything, but if you wanted to it would be great to help Shipmates down the line
You can even stipulate what we spend it on, such as Welfare (e.g. ipads for elderly veterans), or leave something to your local branch - it's your free will. https://buff.ly/44BjG39

We continue to reach out to Veterans living with Dementia and we are very aware that the majority do not like to mention that they have dementia. We need to encourage anyone who serves or has served in the Armed Forces, Emergency Services and associated organisation to contact us so that we can provide help and support.

We are increasing the levels of support that we provide significantly across the UK

You are not alone and we are here to support you and your carers/loved/ones and families as you journey with dementia together

Veterans Dementia Support UK provides a range of support for Veterans living with Dementia. Alzhiemers or memory loss and to support their loved ones or carers. We have groups, advice services and much more

SUPPORT WHEN NEEDED
SOUTHERN ENGLAND

Easter weekend we had 48 new enquiries asking for support from families across the Country. Unlike many organisations we remained available and answered each enquiry with advice, support and signposting to other organisations if we couldn't help straight away.

One example was:

My dad served in the Army for 30 years and was being cared for by our mum for the past 5 years. They had a happy life, but challenging at times as they journeyed with Dementia together. Mum didn't wake up on Friday morning and we are totally lost. We will take turns being with dad and help him as much as we can. But can you guide us and support us on our new journey. What help is there available. We appreciate its Easter and we are asking a lot ..where do we do from here? Arrabella and family

We responded on Saturday night with a phone call to reassure them and by Sunday afternoon they had an email offering suggestions both short term and longer term.

They phoned on Easter Day to say thank you and we checked in them again on Easter Monday. Its not something new, we maintain that link from the time of the first call or email till the time that we are not needed.

The same situation has happened all weekend, but the team of volunteers have answered the phone and listened as those caring for someone with dementia have opened their hearts and concerns for their loved ones. We listened and responded with care and actual support.

We are all volunteers here- we have no paid staff members. We give our time, skills and talents so that those living with dementia and their carers feel supported every day of the year.

We know that people are struggling financially with fuel and food prices rising. We ourselves as a small charity are also facing challenges. This weekend happens every day,

We really would appreciate a donation of any size to help us with this work in the heart of the communities and online.

Please support us via this link. Every £ raised will be used to benefit those living with dementia whom we support.
