Thank you to everyone that attended our Bevan Bear event last Friday.
It was a lovely sunny day and after everyone enjoyed a Wiggly Words session with Morgan from Aneurin Leisure, we all played wild meadow bingo amongst the wildflowers at the Bevan Health and Wellbeing Centre.
Special thanks to Angie, Elise and Morgan for arranging and keeping everyone entertained.

Don't forget to join us this Friday for the free Bevan Bear event at the Bevan Health & Wellbeing Centre, Tredegar.

We have Wild Meadow bingo sessions at 10 am and 11:30 am. Children will be invited to explore the beautiful meadow but instead of numbers, we'll be playing bingo with nature!

Wiggly words will be between 10:30 am until 11:30 am with Aneurin Leisure.

We also have a children's craft area, an information market place and free cwtches from Bevan Bear.

Flu is caused by viruses and spreads easily.

Anyone can get flu but children have the highest rate of infection. Flu can be serious for children and complications can include bronchitis, pneumonia and ear infections.

Some children may become unwell with flu that they need to go to hospital.

The Blaenau Gwent Locality Team will be supporting ABUHB clinical teams in delivering the 2-3 year olds Flu Vaccine from the third week of September throughout Blaenau Gwent schools and childcare settings.

Did you know, there is a photo contest going on at the moment, with the theme My Happy Place in Nature:

It's free to enter, open to all ages and the aim is to get 12 x stunning photos for us to use in a fundraising wall calendar, which will goes on sale over the autumn.

Calling local wellbeing groups – wild swimmers, walking groups, running groups etc – Do you have members that would like to enter so the calendar becomes a celebration not just of Wales' natural beauty, but also the fab work other wellbeing organisations are doing to help people stay mentally and physically well.

You need to hurry! Get those cameras out the deadline is the 15th August 😊

YAB staff at the Staff Recognition Awards 2025

Some of our staff at Ysbyty Aneurin Bevan hospital, Ebbw Vale were short-listed for awards at the recent Staff Recognition Awards ceremony.

Our YAB Queen – Tracey Cullen and YAB porters had been nominated and shortlisted for an award for ‘Going the extra mile.’ We’re so pleased everyone was shortlisted as Tracey works so hard for the hospital and will go out of her way to help anyone and our porters are always so helpful and kind to staff and patients – we’re so grateful to you all!

The BG Locality Team were nominated for Partnership Working for their 2–3 year olds flu programme and we’re delighted to have received a Certificate of Recognition for our work. For the past 4 years the team have worked closely with all the BG schools, BG GP practices, Flying Start, the ABUHB immunisation service and partners to ensure the BG community are protected against flu and making the vaccines more accessible by visiting schools, nurseries, Flying Start settings and delivering pop-up clinics. The project is building and improving every year thanks to the commitment of our staff and colleagues.

It was a lovely evening at Ebbw Vale Leisure Centre and so nice to see colleagues from neighbouring boroughs receiving recognition for their amazing work.

We have Wiggly Words with Aneurin Leisure from 10:30 am until 11:30 am, children's craft activities, an information marketplace with information/advice from local services and organisations, and of course free cuddles with our Bevan Bear 🐻🫶🤩

Happy retirement to the lovely Alison from YAB Hospital, Ebbw Vale.
Alison started work for ABUHB as the 'Flying Cook' 28 years ago - covering all the hospitals in Blaenau Gwent. She's been a well-loved addition to the catering team at YAB hospital and we're all so grateful to you for feeding us for all these years.
Alison is looking forward to spending more time with her grandchildren, longer holidays in her caravan and no more 5 am alarms.
We wish you lots of sunny, happy days and enjoy a couple of lie-ins Alison - you've certainly earned some! Happy retirement 🥳🥳🥳
