Tom is here to remind you that it is ok to be kind to yourself, take things as slowly as you need to, and to stop to smell the roses. (He also says that you can eat them if you wish.)

So much has happened in this past week that warrants a post. Firstly, the judgement from the UK Supreme Court, and, secondly, Robert F. Kennedy's big launch of a study designed to ultimately try to eradicate people like me and my clients.

I want to make clear that I stand with my community and my clients - I'm here for you. All of you.

Being by the sea always puts any problems into perspective. The vastness of it makes you see how small you (and, even more so, your problems) are.

Also, it's now approximately two years since I started Autistically Brilliant 🍾🥂

Hello all,

I know I haven't created any content for a long time, due to being (gratefully) very busy - apologies! Regardless, I'm still here for you, whether you are "officially" diagnosed or self-identified neurodivergent.

If you would like to try neuro- and LGBTQIA+ affirming online/phone counselling or art psychotherapy, get in touch with me and I'll contact you to arrange a free, short (no obligation!) introductory meeting to discuss our potential work together.

Wishing you a warm, sunny spring,

Kirsti

THIS WEEK! ⭐ ‘Exploring Autistic Sensory Needs’ with Laura Hellfeld and Scott Neilson ⭐ 1st February 1.00pm

OPEN TO PARENTS AND CARERS IN EAST RENFREWSHIRE ONLY

To grab your FREE fully-funded place, please email hello@autistic-collective.org

The Autistic Collective team are getting super excited for our first event of the year THIS THURSDAY 1st February from 1.00 - 3.00pm

We’d love you to join us for ‘Exploring Autistic Sensory Needs’ delivered by AuDHD healthcare professional; Laura Hellfeld Neurodivergent Nurse Consulting and Autistic consultant and trainer; Scott Neilson Autistically Scott

Come along and see for yourself why there’s such big love and respect for Scott and Laura’s work amongst the Autistic community and beyond, both individually as consultants and trainers, and also as a collaborative duo. The fact they’re great company too is just the cherry on top!

The event is part of our funded series of empowerment workshops for parents and carers, with long-time collaborator and friend Lynsey Stewart, L-Mac Consultancy The Autism Network

On the day, we’ll be exploring different examples of sensory experiences and what these can feel like for Autistic people, of all ages, including PDAers.

Laura and Scott will draw from their personal and professional experience to break down the senses all humans have, and how we can understand and support Autistic people’s varying and fluctuating sensory needs. We will also be looking at ways to help design your own sensory toolkit for the Autistic loved ones in your life, or yourself.

Some of the topics and areas covered will include:

⭐ Sensory needs in different environments (home, education, community)

⭐ Spiky profile and fluctuating needs

⭐ Spoon theory and energy levels

⭐ Building a sensory toolkit

⭐ Taking mindful moments to break down segments of the day which are challenging

⭐ How sensory balance can support self-care needs like eating and sleeping

⭐ Time for questions and discussion at the end

HOW DO I REGISTER TO BOOK MY PLACE?

To grab your FREE fully-funded place, please email hello@autistic-collective.org

Note: For parents and carers in East Renfrewshire only.

Can’t make it? Don’t worry, please register anyway. All registrants will get access to the recording + slides afterwards.

The Q&A section of the session will NOT be recorded. In the recording, the presenters will be the only people visible on your screen, and comments made in the chat box on the day will have been removed. Participants’ autonomy and privacy is utmost here at The Autistic Collective!

*Exciting Announcement*

To quote Dr. Tiff Lanza of Maverique Therapeutic Services, "We can do hard things!"

So with that inspiration and support, Scott Neilson of Autistically Scott and I would like to share that we will be publishing our booklet 'Creating Safe Spaces for Autistic People'.

We wanted to write this booklet in order to outline some of the key principles, values and approaches that can cultivate a safe space for Autistic people.

This guide is both for identifying and non-identifying people to help support developing their group across a range of settings and activities such as lunch clubs, interest-based groups, library activities and online gatherings.

We also have included insight and quotes from various educators, professionals and advocates.

Our plan is to have this booklet available end of February to early March (wish us luck with the tech bits now!)

Thanks so much for sharing in on the excitement!
