Sometime ago I posted about the inner seasons within the menstrual cycle. This conversation wouldn’t be complete without talking about how we can support ourselves when our period comes. When our hormones crash each month, along with it comes moodiness, cramps, cravings, head tension, bloating, and changes in bowels.

Bowels? Say what? In the first few days of your period, your body releases prostaglandins which are hormone-like compounds that have a ton of roles in the body. One of which is to work with smooth muscle, which triggers the uterus to contract. (Hello cramps) But this also triggers the bowel to contract which is why it is not unusual to also have a change in bowels during this time as well as bloating and indigestion. Our food cravings the few days before our period comes also do not help 🙈.

Here’s some of my favorites to get through that time of the month:

🌿Digize: Aids in digestion and provides relief for abdominal woes. Roll or massage on abdomen with carrier oil in clockwise rotation to support natural movement of bowels.

🌿Dragon Time: supports feelings of stability and calmness. Like Digize it also contains fennel to help calm tummy troubles as well as clary sage to help support those hormones. Massage on abdomen with carrier oil. I also like to add a drop or two to YL’s unscented body gel the first few days of my period.

🌿Deep Relief, CBD muscle rub: great to roll on abdomen to provide relief on midsection.

🌿Peppermint or Panaway: Add a drop with carrier oil and rub on temples, across forehead or back of neck to help head tension.

🌿Frankincense: in diffuser alone or with lavender to help calm fluctuations in moods. Also great in night face serum to support healthy skin.

🌿Progessence Plus: formulated for women, supports healthy looking skin and supports hormones.

🌿Joy: diffuse alone or with citrus oils such as lemon or orange for a pick me up. 😊
