As Randolph Hill Group continues to celebrate 40 Years, we would like to once again highlight some of our wonderful team members. Today, Administrator Joanna Courtney, and Carol Widdowson, Housekeeper, are thanked for their years of dedicated service, as they both started Muirfield Nursing Home on the same day in May 2016.

“Working for Randolph Hill over the years has given us the opportunity to gain so many lovely memories with the residents and their families. On numerous occasions, the relatives have said they consider us as part of their extended family. This really means a lot to us all. With this said, we feel lucky to work as part of a great team and look forward to making many more memories.

When we started at Muirfield, it was still in the old Bissets Hotel Building. One time, there was a fundraising event being held there for the STV children’s appeal and Sean Batty came to the home to collect the cheque.

The foundations for the new Muirfield were in place and it was fascinating to watch the progression until the first phase opened in July 2017. It was exciting, welcoming the resident’s to the new purpose-built home. When the second phase was finished towards the end of 2018, the Lord Lieutenant officially opened the home in April 2019. The residents, their families, staff and the local community were invited to join in the celebrations. It was a fantastic day. Another memorable day was when the Red Hot Chilli Pipers came to the home and played a set in the garden. We have also celebrated a Golden and Diamond wedding anniversary, a few 100th birthdays, and a wedding. We recently had an art exhibition where residents from all homes were involved.”

The 40th anniversary festivities continue as we celebrate the outstanding people who shape Randolph Hill every day.
Today we thank Julie Ferguson for her years of dedicated service.

Julie Ferguson has worked as kitchen assistant for 4 years, before joining as a care assistant. She finds her role rewarding as she cares for lovely residents and working as a team.

Julie recalls Sean Batty, the weatherman, visiting Muirfield in 2016 having completed the annual bike ride from Glasgow to Edinburgh.

"Other highlights over the years include watching the new home being built with excitement, the Red-Hot Chilli Pipers performing at Muirfield, and Juan making his delicious paella for Muirfield Spanish nights that was organised in the village hall.

Randolph Hill also gives their care staff opportunities to move into management roles within the company when qualifications allow. This was always something previously only given to nursing staff, and I feel this is a progression the care sector really needed to help future proof companies in this sector."

The 40th anniversary festivities carry on as we honour the outstanding people who shape Randolph Hill every day.
Today we thank Sebastian Gomes for his years of dedicated service.

Seb started working for the Randolph Hill Group in September 2010, joining as a care assistant at Ashley Court, and progressing to a senior carer position.

The best things about working for Randolph Hill are “The management is very good, approachable at any time, and very helpful. There is also a good working environment and good salary.
I particularly enjoy the summer event. It is very well organised, and residents, families and staff enjoy this together – it feels like a big family.”

National Picnic Month

It’s National Picnic month and we’re making the most of it. 🧺🍎🍇
Having lovely outdoor spaces means that we can easily eat outside and enjoy the picnic weather.
And with our wonderful minibus, we can transport residents to other locations for some al fresco dining.
The weather is never guaranteed here in Scotland, so we like to make the most of the sun when it does shine. But we always have a backup plan if we need to picnic indoors… 🌦️

Coping in Hot Weather
☀️💧☀️
As summer gets into full swing, we understand the importance of keeping our residents cool and helping them cope in the warmer weather.
High temperatures can be difficult for our residents as their bodies can have a harder time regulating temperature, leaving them vulnerable to heat related illnesses like heat stroke.
To combat this, here are measures to help keep older people cool, such as:
💧Drinking plenty of water
💧Having cool flannels available (having these on the back of your neck can cool you down quickly)
💧Ice lollies
💧Making sure our meals have lots of fruit and vegetables that contain water to help battle dehydration
💧Providing fans and making sure living spaces are cool and shaded
If you’re looking after someone at home, make sure you’re following these steps to keep them cool and comfortable.

Our 40th anniversary celebrations are still going strong, and we're proud to feature the amazing people behind the heart of Randolph Hill. Today we thank Helen Cameron for her years of dedicated service.
Helen Cameron trained in 1985 as an enrolled nurse and then completed the conversion course to become a Registered General Nurse. She says “My ethos of care is based on respect, dignity and providing high-quality person-centred care in a homely environment where residents are at the centre of everything that we do.”
Helen’s first post was in a hospital setting looking after older people where she worked for 5 years, later moving to Acute Respiratory medicine and then onto Stroke Rehabilitation, as well as working on the community NHS Staff bank. Helen’s passion has always been caring for older people so in 1995 she decided to move to the Care Home sector and later joined Randolph Hill (Group) in 2009 as a Staff Nurse.
Helen has worked for 16 years at Ashley Court Nursing Home in Edinburgh as a Senior Staff nurse and was promoted to Charge Nurse. She says “I have looked after residents from all walks of life. With their stories and experiences, the meaningful relationships you can build with older people and their families is a rewarding aspect of my job.
Randolph Hill supports their staff well in learning opportunities, ensuring we have access to quality training and education.
Working with my mangers and my colleagues at Ashley Court, who come from a variety of experiences and backgrounds, brings a wealth of knowledge, care and positivity. This, combined with the residents and families, makes Ashley Court a good place to be.”

Kirk Lane residents, staff, and families enjoyed taking part in the Livingston Village Gala day – and were delighted to win the competition for Best Dressed House, receiving a trophy and flowers.
Such a fun day for everyone, despite the weather!
One resident purchased ice cream to give out to all the children and residents which was very kind, and our weekend receptionist and a resident’s family member were happy to serve.

Pictured is one of our amazing Team Leaders, Ashleigh, who won the Care Worker of the Year Award back in November.

Alongside Wimbledon, another key sporting event is starting this month – The British Grand Prix.
Broadcasting the magic of Silverstone is available on the big screen and we encourage our residents to get involved in the action.
May the best driver win. 🌟
