Gig Buddies with Thera Trust

Gig Buddies with Thera Trust Gig Buddies with Thera Trust enables people with a learning disability to get out to more events and enjoy the social life they choose.

Our current local projects are: Gig Buddies Edinburgh, West Lothian, and Glasgow. We do this by paring our members to a volunteer who shares the same interests as them. Our 'Gig Buddies' then choose which events they go to each month and enjoy their shared passion together. πŸ“£ We have some changes to our funding that we’d like to share, with an announcement of some new funding, but also saying goodbye and thank you to some long-term support. While it brings change, this news doesn’t mean Gig Buddies with Thera will be ending in any of our current areas.

After 8 years of support from West Lothian Council, we’ve recently had confirmation that our contract to deliver Gig Buddies in West Lothian will sadly end in March 2026. While this is sad news for us, we want to thank them for their incredible support of Gig Buddies for such a long time.

Our National Lottery grant for delivery in Glasgow also came to an end this September. Thankfully, we have been awarded a new grant from the National Lottery for costs towards our total staff team over the next 2 years. We are incredibly thankful to the National Lottery for their support of our project.

For these reasons, our focuses on how we support people, and the activity you see from us, may start to change over the next 6 months and into the future. We want to stress that Gig Buddies will not be ending support for any current members in any area we currently operate. In fact, we are currently welcoming referrals new members and volunteers in all areas! So let people know they can sign up to Gig Buddies! Current members and volunteers can reach out to our team with any questions.

Public support for our work remains more vital than ever for us to continue what we do. We are incredibly interested in connecting with local businesses and organisations across the Scottish central belt that share our vision and would like to support our project. If you know of a company who might want to support us, get in touch with Samuel.maggs@thera.co.uk. We also welcome public donations and fundraisers with more info being available here - https://gigbuddiestheratrust.raiselysite.com/

πŸŽͺ This is the final part in our three part series of blogs that looks at our work with festivals, and how we
enable people to access them with confidence. This week we talk about our amazing month at the Edinburgh Festivals, how we gave away over 250 tickets, and the impact that comes from that.

πŸ“£πŸš¨ TONIGHT'S FUNDRAISER HAS BEEN CANCELLED

Sadly the venue have unexpetedly pulled out of tonight's disco fundraiser in Midlothian, and it will no longer be going ahead.

We really appreciate the support that Gig Buddies Colin, Don, Kevin, and Robert have shown in organising this event and we will be arranging a new date as soon as possible. It is likely to be a weekend in October, dates and location to be confirmed.

So sorry for any disappointment and apologies for the very short notice.

Gig Buddies Scotland

Gig Buddies Scotland enables people with a learning disability to get out to more events and enjoy the social life they choose. We do this by paring our members to a volunteer who shares the same interests as them. Our 'Gig Buddies' then choose which events they go to each month and enjoy their shared passion together. We also run a number of regular social events that anyone is welcome to come along to. Simply check out our latest newsletter to see what events are coming up.

We currently operate in Edinburgh, Midlothian, West Lothian, and Glasgow. Gig Buddies was set up in 2013 by Stay Up Late in Brighton and has since been established in Sydney, Australia and now here in Scotland.
