Artlink Edinburgh & the Lothians

Artlink Edinburgh & the Lothians We bring people together to explore possibilities, using art as a catalyst to spark new ideas.

Artlink believes participation in the arts has an important role to play in realising personal and social change. Our aim is to increase opportunities to take part in the arts for those who experience disadvantage or disability in the East of Scotland. We offer practical support so people can get involved, and also work with venues to increase opportunities to enjoy the arts. Artlink establishes partnerships with artists, venues and organisations to help transform lives.

Ahoy! Sea explorers! Join us as we prepare for the Sea Trek parade at the Royal Ed, with this year’s theme celebrating the big blue! Visit Anne and Laura at The Glasshouses for parade preparation workshops every Tuesday (1-4pm) and Wednesday (1-3pm) to get creative and design your own sea-themed banners, costumes and decorations for the parade.

Meanwhile, put Wednesday August 27th in your diaries for the big day itself! See Friends of the Glasshouses - Artlink for more info, or www.artlinkhospital.art

The Makers explored a brilliant variety of cyanotype processes - one of the oldest photographic processes that doesn’t use a camera to create beautiful prints.

Welcome sun-filled days in May & June meant they used sunlight, light-sensitive paper and water to make prints. Exploring a variety of different techniques like natural plants or found objects, ‘double exposure’ to create layered prints, printing your own drawing and even darkening prints using tea and spices.

The Arts Access Vintage Club enjoyed a visit to See With Me, an exhibition of work by Edinburgh based visually impaired artists who have been working with the Fruitmarket. We found pieces of work made by our friends and family members and enjoyed this immersive, sensory experience. Later, we had a chance to make our own tactile art using a variety of materials. Thanks to Tracy, Lindsay and Katie for encouraging us to be hands on!

REMEMBERING LEANNE ROSS

Last Friday, we said goodbye to our dear friend Leanne Ross after a long illness. It’s hard to imagine a world without her, but if there’s one thing she taught us, it’s how to find beauty and joy in everything.

Leanne’s art was a true reflection of who she was - bright, colourful, and full of life. As one of the founders of the KMA art group, she brought people together through creativity, laughter, and a deep love for making something beautiful. She poured her soul and humour into everything she created, leaving behind not just stunning works of art but also an incredible sense of warmth, kindness, and wit.

More than just an extraordinary artist, Leanne was a wonderful friend - kind, loving and always ready with a clever remark or a heartfelt word. She built lasting friendships, and the impact she made on all of us will never fade.

Though we’ll miss her more than words can say, we choose to remember her with love, laughter, and gratitude for the time we had. Her art, her spirit, and the joy and love she brought into our lives will always, always be with us.

Leanne Ross, we love you.
