Government: Stop starving Gaza. Stop supporting and arming Israel. Stop the war. Stop shooting and bombing civilians, children and health workers. Use your power.

People: Watch Gaza: Doctors Under Attack on if you haven’t already. Protest. Write to your MP. Talk. Listen to the Humanitarian orgs and Palestinian and British medics accounts of what is happening and many more. Use your power wherever you can.

There is nothing else to say re the genocidal humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza playing out on front of the world.

The world feels devastating. Move, breathe, look after yourself, get outside but stay aware wherever your mental health allows you to. Om Shanti. Peace. Peace. Peace

🌞 As we head into summer, we’re feeling a mix of gratitude and excitement for what’s ahead!

🧘‍♀️ Our Trauma-Informed Yoga Training kicks off this September!
If this has been on your radar, now’s the time to secure your spot. This transformative course offers a deep dive into yoga through a trauma-informed lens—and it’s always a powerful journey for those who join.

🏙️ This month, we’re also saying a heartfelt goodbye to our classes with Edinburgh Old Town Development Trust at the Crannie. It’s been an honour to share that space and connect with so many of you there.

💚 At the same time, we’re expanding! We’re adding another class at B Healthy to help meet growing demand and reduce their waitlist—something we’re really excited about.

🧡 A Reflection as We Mark 10 Years, From Lorraine Close, Outreach Director at Edinburgh Community Yoga

As we come to the end of our tenth year as a not-for-profit social enterprise, I’ve been reflecting on the journey we’ve taken. It’s been a decade filled with deep connection, learning, and a shared belief in the power of yoga to support wellbeing and healing in our communities.

This work is not always easy. Funding our outreach projects remains a constant challenge, and many of the organisations we partner with are facing real pressures. But still—we show up. Because the need for accessible, trauma-informed, inclusive yoga is greater than ever. And we believe in what we do.

There’s a lot on the horizon that we’re excited about:

🧘‍♀️ Trauma-Informed Yoga Training returns this September
🌿 5-Day Wellbeing Course in June—2 hours each day to pause, reset & reconnect
🎉 Big fundraiser event coming in October to help sustain our outreach work

As (AYE) approaches its first birthday, we want to pause and offer our deepest gratitude to Emma Isokivi and the whole AYE community.

From day one, AYE has embodied what it means to be a truly community-focused studio—small, supportive classes led by experienced teachers rooted in authentic yogic tradition. 🙏

Whether you're navigating a high-stress environment or simply looking to deepen your self-care, this course offers practical tools and insight to help you feel more grounded, resilient, and restored.

Moira will be at The Medical Centre, 106 Niddrie Mains Road, Edinburgh (EH16 4DT) for an informal chat about yoga, health and wellbeing. Moira will be on hand to introduce herself, chat about the benefits of yoga, and share some simple practices.

🪑 Plus, she'll be offering a chair yoga taster session

These monthly sessions, hosted with the Community Link Worker, usually see 8-15 participants, so it's a great opportunity to get comfortable, ask questions, and explore how yoga can fit into your life.

We are launching a small fundraising campaign to allow us to plug a gap while we seek ongoing grant funding for 2 of our popular chair yoga on social prescription programmes in Methil, Fife and The Gyle, Edinburgh

These classes mean the world to participants and the value of having something to get out of the house for and interacting with others cannot be underestimated.

We are hoping to raise £2k in the next month to plug a funding gap in both these classes.

In Edinburgh, a quiet revolution is unfolding—one that recognises yoga is about much more than just physical flexibility. It's about creating meaningful social connections and supporting mental and physical health through empowerment, embodiment, and relationship-building.

Edinburgh Community Yoga has been at the forefront of yoga's role in social prescribing in Scotland, offering high-quality, trauma-informed yoga classes by referral in and around the city. This week, we celebrated Social Prescribing Day 2025, reflecting on how yoga is playing an essential role in improving the health and well-being of individuals in our communities.

💡 What is Social Prescribing?

Social prescribing is an innovative healthcare approach where GPs, nurses, and community link workers refer individuals to non-clinical services that improve overall well-being. These services may include arts, exercise, nature-based activities, or volunteering, and focus on the whole person—not just medical symptoms. Social prescribing can help combat loneliness, mental health issues, chronic stress, and conditions like chronic pain.

Yoga, as part of this approach, is gaining recognition for its ability to improve mental and physical health. Combining breathwork, physical postures, and mindfulness, it reduces stress, improves mood, and enhances well-being. 🧘‍♀️💚

We're proud to be part of this movement in Edinburgh, helping to make yoga accessible, sustainable, and embedded in the communities we serve.
