Didn’t remember to take a decent photo but an excellent day of teaching Trauma Informed practice to the yoga teacher training.

Always a joy to see these skills being incorporated into the fundamentals of teaching yoga and to hear the enthusiasm and passion for the work we do

As we step into the final leg of ECY’s journey, our hearts are full — not with sadness, but with gratitude for everyone who has walked beside us. Every class, every collaboration, every moment of growth — made possible by the incredible community that believed in what we were building.

Was it really June 2018 when we partnered with Marie-Anne Martin at Beetroot Sauvage Wellness Centre? It's going to be fun celebrating all that we have achieved together and thinking of those who have been part of this journey.

🌱 Remembering, celebrating, and trusting the seeds we’ve planted to keep growing

A Season of Change and New Beginnings

As winter draws in and the festive season approaches, we’ve been reflecting on cycles of change — the stillness of winter, the sparkle of Christmas, and the promise of new beginnings. It’s in this spirit that we share some difficult news: Edinburgh Community Yoga will close in 2026.

We want to be clear — we are not closing because our service is no longer needed, or because we aren't doing a good job. We are closing because there simply aren’t the funds available to keep the lights on. Like many third sector organisations, we’ve faced significant financial challenges in recent years, with reduced income and fewer grant opportunities. We’ll continue all our current projects, but by July 2026, ECY will have brought its work to a close.

The sad reality is that mental and physical health remains deeply impacted in areas of social deprivation. Isolation and loneliness are rising, and there are fewer and fewer options for people to support and be supported. We know our small offering has meant a great deal to many over the years. Creating community and connection — moving, breathing, coming home to ourselves — feels like a human right. One we cherish for ourselves and for offering to others.

So while there is huge sadness in letting go of the form ECY has taken, there is also hope. We trust that the legacy of this work will continue to unfold in meaningful ways. Yoga teaches us not to hold too tightly, to trust the emergent wisdom of life. And so we are surrendering, to make space for whatever comes next.

Over the next few months, we look forward to continuing our projects and beginning to imagine how we might celebrate all that we have achieved together. As one chapter closes, another begins — and we hold hope that the seeds planted through ECY will continue to grow.

Thank you for being part of this journey. ❤️🕊️

At Edinburgh Community Yoga, yoga isn’t just about poses — it’s about compassion, connection, and community. 💜

Whether we’re showing up for each other, taking a mindful breath in a tough moment, or creating spaces where everyone feels welcome, that’s yoga too. 🌿

Yoga is more than movement — it’s how we move through life.

🧘‍♀️ Yoga on Social Prescription 🌿

At Edinburgh Community Yoga, we believe yoga should be accessible to everyone — not just those who can afford or feel comfortable walking into a studio.

As a not-for-profit social enterprise, our mission is to break down the financial, attitudinal, and accessibility barriers that stop people from experiencing the many physical, mental, and social benefits of yoga.

Through our Yoga on Social Prescription programme, we partner with GP practices and local agencies across Edinburgh, Fife and Midlothian to offer trauma-informed, referral-based classes in areas of social and economic deprivation.

Together, we’re creating spaces where wellbeing is truly inclusive — one breath, one community, one class at a time.

🌙 Join Us for a Special Yin Yoga Event – Supporting Edinburgh Community Yoga 🌙

We have a few spaces left for Norman Blair and Nadine Watton's beautiful “Yin Out” session this Friday, 10th October 2025, at Walpole Hall 🧘‍♀️

In February 2023 and April 2024, over 50 yogis came together for these heart-opening Yin practices — and thanks to your generosity, our last event raised £1,380 to support our community classes in Craigmillar. 💛

This Friday, Norman and Nadine return to guide us through two nourishing hours of stillness and connection — a chance to slow down, soften, and simply be.

All funds raised will go directly towards our Move, Relax, Chat chair-based yoga class for older adults at The Gyle — a vital space for movement, laughter, and friendship. Many attendees (aged 65–80+) share that the class has helped them feel less isolated and more connected. 💬✨

📅 Date: Friday, 10th October 2025
🕕 Time: 6:00 – 8:00 PM
📍 Location: Walpole Hall, St Mary’s Cathedral, Palmerston Place, Edinburgh, EH12 5AW
