Let me show you, month by month, how my client Jenna’s journey unfolded.

When you’re struggling with interstitial cystitis (IC) or chronic UTIs, I know how much you crave quick relief. I’ve been there. But real, lasting progress takes time. And for Jenna, every month brought new milestones:

✨ Month 1: Symptom shifts that gave her a glimmer of hope.
✨ Month 3: More good days, fewer flares.
✨ Month 6: Feeling like herself again.

The secret to her success? She checked in with me regularly via the online portal, so we could tweak and adapt her plan as needed. She used my recipe collections and resources to stay supported between sessions.

Because the Heal your Bladder programme isn’t just a protocol, it’s a partnership 🙌

Jenna's six-month timeline shows why quick fixes don’t cut it. Long lasting relief means rebuilding, rebalancing, and finding what works for you. Not eliminating lists of foods, or tossing a few supplements at the problem in the hope that this all goes away.

👉 Swipe to see Jenna’s journey from non-stop flare-ups ➡️ to finding the freedom to love life again.

Jenna had hesitations before joining too, but she took the leap, and by month 5 of the Heal Your Bladder programme, she ran a half marathon (pain-free), alongside strength training that left her feeling stronger than ever.

Before joining, Jenna had consulted five different urologists and tried countless private tests, diets, and treatments, but nothing worked. She had been running twice a week in pain, needing a hot water bottle afterward.

🏅 What could your journey look like if you decided to take that first step with an integrative nutrition approach?

Whether you call it IC or chronic or embedded UTI, it’s often the same issue. The infection has been missed by inadequate urine culture testing and people get fobbed off with the label of IC (but oftentimes it is a chronic infection). Check out my latest blog post on urinary testing: https://www.marycotternutrition.com/blog/why-ic-could-be-a-uti

You don’t have to be trapped by your thoughts about your pain. Just because a thought pops into your head doesn’t mean you have to hold onto it or let it control your day. One powerful tool I use with my clients is thought substitution.

Instead of letting negative thoughts about your symptoms take over, try replacing them with positive or neutral thoughts.

For instance:

Instead of "I am in pain," say → "I am feeling uncomfortable."
Replace "I am suffering" with → "I am experiencing sensations."
Instead of "My body is broken," try → "My body is healing and adjusting."

Can you start to see how these subtle shifts can help the brain focus on comfort and healing rather than amplifying negative experiences? It’s like giving your mind a new focus.

It takes practice and a mindful awareness and so it's not always easy. But remember, you have the power to choose which thoughts you give your energy to... And what you focus on grows. 💙

Want to discuss your vision for your health (like a life filled dinner dates, travelling with ease and intimate relationships) and how you're going to get there? Drop me a DM and let's discuss how we're going to get you there. 💙💙😄

☕ Coffee is not acidic to your bladder! Instead, the real irritation comes from...

☕ Caffeine, which changes your bladder’s sensitivity, leading to spasms and that frustrating feeling of urgency or ‘needing to go’ more often.

☕ It’s also a diuretic, meaning you’ll produce slightly more urine than you consume, which can increase your frequency.

🤎 And that’s why coffee irritates your bladder.

Its acidity is neutralised by your stomach acid during digestion, and while it is acidic to the stomach, it has a low potential renal acid load, meaning by the time it reaches your kidneys the acid has been naturally neutralised. You don’t need “acid-soothing” pills unless you struggle with reflux or acid indigestion.

I often receive invites from companies selling “acid blockers”. Don't waste your hard-earned cash with this BS.

P.S. Decaf isn’t completely caffeine-free, so I still don’t recommend it in the initial stages of healing. For bladder-friendly coffee alternatives, check out my previous post.

Every little swap adds up, helping you find relief from urgency and frequency.

Some of my favourite bladder friendly herbal teas include: marshmallow root, cornsilk, meadow sweet, for their soothing effect on the sensitive mucous membranes of the bladder and urethra.

Which swaps are you excited to try? Share your favourites in the comments below... 💬 😄👇
