Perry Psychotherapy

Perry Psychotherapy Art therapy for children & young people online and in person. I offer psychodynamic art therapy primarily to children & young people but also work with adults.

My role is to help people express thoughts and feelings they may not be aware they have (often known as unconscious thoughts). Often these unconscious thoughts affect our mood and behaviour in ways that we aren't even aware of, and which may not always make sense to us. Through creative activities and play, art therapy can gently help people to explore these deeper feelings, helping them process emotions, reduce anxiety, and gain a better sense of themself. Art therapy provides a safe and supportive space where they can express what's on their minds in a way that feels natural and comfortable. I am a fully qualified Art Psychotherapist registered member of BAAT (British Association of Art Therapists), HCPC (Health and Care Professions Council) & ICO (Information Commissioner’s Office)

✨ 🧠 A proud moment today – being at the Head Injury Information Conference event not just as someone who attended for years in another capacity with Edinburgh Headway Group, but now with my own private practice. A full-circle day, and I couldn’t be prouder of how far I’ve come.

✨Good things are coming✨

Sometimes the path feels slow, sometimes it’s messy—but growth is happening quietly underneath it all. Trust the process, keep showing up, and let the good things find their way to you. 🌱💛

🌙 Night-time worries and nightmares can feel overwhelming for children – and sometimes trauma plays a big part in these restless nights.
Signs to look out for: frequent bad dreams, struggling to settle to sleep, fears at bedtime, or waking up distressed.

Art therapy offers a gentle, creative space for children to explore these feelings safely, giving shape to the fears that are hard to put into words. Through art, children can build coping tools, feel more secure, and regain a sense of calm at bedtime.

✨ Positive Thinking Reminder ✨
Sometimes joy is hiding in the smallest places—an unexpected smile in your toast crumbs, a kind gesture from a stranger, or simply the sky above when you look up instead of down at your phone. 🌤️

The little signs are all around us if we slow down and notice them. Today, keep your eyes open for those quiet sparks of happiness—you never know where they’ll appear. 💚😊

🌿 Self-Care September 🌿

Self-care isn’t just bubble baths and candles—it’s the everyday things we do to look after our body, mind, and feelings. For children, young people, and parents/carers, self-care can help reduce stress, build resilience, and make tricky days feel a little lighter.

Here are some simple prompts and ideas to support self-care routines that work for all ages. Small steps can make a big difference 💚

✨ What’s the best that could happen? ✨
We spend so much energy bracing for the worst, but what if—just for today—you let yourself imagine the best? 🌱💡

Shift your focus. Open the door to possibility.
Because sometimes the best really does happen. 💚

From the art table: supporting children & young people with phobias. 🤢 🐕 🕷️ 🍽️ ⚡️🏥💉🩸

Children and young people can experience phobias around many different things—food, vomiting, animals, insects, and more. These fears can feel overwhelming, but they are also very real and important to acknowledge.

In art therapy, phobias can be explored safely and symbolically—through imagery, metaphor, and creative play—helping children to name, understand, and gradually face their fears in a supported way.

Building trust, safety, and creative expression can make it easier for young people to approach what feels unapproachable.

Trauma isn’t just about what happened — it’s about how our minds and bodies carry those experiences long after.
For children and young people, that weight can sometimes feel too big to put into words.

Art therapy offers another way in — a safe, creative space to explore feelings, release what’s held inside, and begin to build new ways of coping.

Healing doesn’t mean forgetting. It means finding new ways to carry what once felt too heavy.

If you’re curious about how art therapy could support your child, I’d be happy to chat. 💚
