Perry Psychotherapy

Perry Psychotherapy Art therapy for children & young people online and in person. I offer psychodynamic art therapy primarily to children & young people but also work with adults.

My role is to help people express thoughts and feelings they may not be aware they have (often known as unconscious thoughts). Often these unconscious thoughts affect our mood and behaviour in ways that we aren't even aware of, and which may not always make sense to us. Through creative activities and play, art therapy can gently help people to explore these deeper feelings, helping them process e

motions, reduce anxiety, and gain a better sense of themself. Art therapy provides a safe and supportive space where they can express what's on their minds in a way that feels natural and comfortable. I am a fully qualified Art Psychotherapist registered member of BAAT (British Association of Art Therapists), HCPC (Health and Care Professions Council) & ICO (Information Commissioner’s Office)

🌧️🌈 Exciting news 💚🎨

I’m so delighted to share that, alongside continuing my work in Edinburgh, I’ll now also be working from a beautiful new space in Livingston at Rainbow Rascals opening in June!

At Rainbow Rascals I will now offer 1:1 therapy for children, young people, and adults, as well as therapeutic wellbeing groups designed to support emotional wellbeing & regulation, connection, and growth.

Amy and Mairi have done an INCREDIBLE job creating this welcoming space, and I’m so proud to be part of a team that is committed to providing a safe, fully accessible, supportive environment for young people and families. 🙌🫶

I can’t wait to welcome clients into this new space and continue supporting individuals and families.

Big feelings can feel overwhelming for children and parents too 💚

Often, children experience emotions in their bodies before they have the words to explain what’s going on. That’s where calming tools and co-regulation can make such a difference.

This “My Calm Kit” is designed to help children:
✨ recognise their feelings
✨ feel safe and supported
✨ practise calming strategies
✨ build confidence managing difficult moments

The goal isn’t to stop emotions, it’s to help children learn that feelings are safe, temporary, and manageable.

Every child is different, so different calming tools will work for different children. The key is practising these skills during calm moments, so they’re easier to access when emotions run high.

Some favourites included:
🌿 belly breathing
🦋 butterfly taps
🐉 dragon breathing
✋ finger breathing
🎧 sensory supports
🏃 movement breaks
💚 grounding exercises

You don’t need to “fix” every feeling. Sometimes the most powerful thing we can offer is connection, safety, and support while children learn to regulate themselves.

Save this post for later or share with a parent who might find it helpful 🫶

Wonderful day last Tuesday hosting an art workshop at the Glasgow Head Injury Information Day with Digby Brown 🎨🧠

These events are always so thoughtfully planned and create such an important space for people to connect, feel seen, and be heard.

A huge thank you to Kirsten & the team for inviting me & providing all the materials and to everyone who came along to the workshop. Whether you got stuck into the art-making or simply stopped by for a chat, both were equally valuable ♥️

Special shoutout to Abbie from Enable Glasgow Fortune Works for the lovely conversations, sharing ideas & her story and for creating the absolute star of the day… a duck with a mohican ✨Truly iconic behaviour.

The next Head Injury Information Day will be held in Edinburgh the 1st of October and I’ll have a stand there too. Come say hello! 🎨🫶

Anger is a powerful emotion- especially for children and young people who may not yet have the words to explain what’s happening inside.

In art therapy, anger isn’t something that needs to be pushed away or “fixed.” Instead, it becomes something we can explore safely through creativity. Paint, clay, drawing, tearing, building - art gives shape to feelings that might otherwise stay stuck in the body.

When anger can be expressed, seen and understood, it often softens. Beneath it there may be hurt, fear, frustration or a need to feel heard.

Art therapy creates a space where all of those feelings are welcome. 🎨

Sometimes the loudest emotions just need a safe place to land.
