This poem is speaking to me at the moment. I walk in the woods daily and, as the leaves rustle in the breeze, I can hear them whisper these words to me.

The summer solstice. The peak. The high point of the year. Spent with gentle, kind people in community celebrating and chanting together. I find these things so healing. (And of course I picked the Scorpio card out of all the possible animals in the deck🤣)

By the beach, where the waves of the Atlantic Ocean are warm when they lap over your toes. Where no filter is needed on photos of the sun setting, the sky glowing pink and gold.

Mother Africa, where the earth is red and the coffee is Nescafe. Where my piece of heaven is next to someone else’s daily life.

And when I wish I could have this view everyday, that I could come down to the beach and know the breeze would be warm on my sticky skin, I remind myself that if this were daily life it would present as many challenges as anywhere else. Its beauty rests in that it is rare, and in that rarity is all that makes it precious. It is fleeting. Too quickly over. Like the sun. Which is setting, into the water.
