Hi my name is Michael Mawdsley,
Due to my personal experiences, which have defined many aspects of my life at University, I am running to be your Disabled and Mental Wellbeing Liberation Group Convenor. I believe through discussion and helping each other, as a group, we can actively seek the change needed to make this university a safe, healthy and open environment for everyone. If elected I shall campaign for:-
A full-scale appraisal of both the Disability and Counselling Services– to ensure these services are enhanced, expanded and developed to match every self-defining student’s specific needs.
24 hour specialist assesment counsellors – A student's first point of call in a time of trouble should be the student counselling service, and this should allow for immediate assement, evaluation and support of students when they reach out for help
An Access Audit –that entails the evaluation of all university buildings for access by students, because access to education should never be a barrier at this University. A greater level of training for lecturers, personal tutors towards disability and mental health –To actively encourage, support and facilitate learning amongst those students with the greatest learning demands. A movie project designed to document the experiences of the DMW Liberation Group – To encourage membership and involvement in thegroup, and because multi-media is the future. Specific Learning Need Student Groups within each school – Together we can help change the system within our respective schools, because disability affects us all in different ways. Together, with your help both I and this Group can and will stand up for all those who self-define, both now and for future generations. Please vote for me, Michael Mawdsley, as #1 preference on the 27th, 28th 29th of March, online for Disability and Mental Wellbeing Convenor.
