Beyond The Veil (Edinburgh) Promoting a better understanding of Islam and Muslims through participating in community events/projects and with partner organisations

We are a Muslim Women's Group based in Edinburgh, Scotland. We aim to promote a better understanding of Islam on a basic level. As "community activitists" we believe it is through integration and partnership that understanding on a reciprocal basis can be achieved.

Muslim Women's Association of Edinburgh are hosting a marital event on 26th November at Iqra Mosque, Edinburgh at 7pm. I think they've done really well to organise this community event. Can you please share far and wide to ensure a successful evening, inshallah. Link to register and further details are below, thank you.

The Muslim Women's Association of Edinburgh was set up at the end of 2005 by a group of Muslim women who found a lack of social activities for women and their families in Edinburgh.

On 10th October is World Mental Health Day. When someone is physically unwell help is immediately sought, but sadly this is not the case when we face mental health issues, both are equally important. Mental health problems exist in our lives, families, workplaces and communities, impacting everyone. We must do as much as possible to prevent mental ill-health – as individuals and as a society. Below is link to Healers Muslim Counselling Service, based in Glasgow. As Muslims we tend not to reach out when we need a little help, this can lead to situations becoming worse, it's brave to seek help, everyone has a right to live their best life.

After Ramadan these 10 days of dhull hijjah (which starts today Thursday) rank next in days loved by Allah, so alhamdollilah any acts of worship during these days bring great reward, let's do what we can, inshallah.

As we enter the first 10 days of this blessed month, our hearts and prayers are with those undertaking the holy pilgrimage of Hajj during these days.

Today, 14 June is World Blood Donor Day. Sadly, everyday blood is needed, we all have it in us to make a difference. Video below shows the great work carried out by the Scottish Ahlul Bayt Society who are raising the importance of blood donation across Scotland, particularly within the Muslim communities. Only 4% of Scotland's eligible community currently give blood. Get in touch with the Blood Transfusion Service near you to make a difference.

“In Turkey, after teraweh, children are invited to play with the Imam. So that they are happy to go to the mosque. Even some new mosques in Turkey such as the Hamdi Cami mosque in Ankara have a playground in the mosque in the lower right corner of the stairs. If the mosque does not have a place to play inside, it is prepared outside the mosque like a garden. The mosque became the Center of happy people.

They seem to believe in what their predecessor, Sultan AlFatih, commanded that, "Be worried if your mosque no longer hears the voice of a child".

2nd April is World Autism Awareness Day. MCS has chosen to highlight this Day, which seeks to increase understanding and acceptance of people with autism, alongside encouraging support for a kinder, more inclusive world. Sadly many live in isolation or can be discriminated against from their family members or communities.

On Sunday 5.12.2021 Muslim Council of Scotland hosted a live show on "Domestic Abuse - What does Islam say?" Here is the recording. The message is clear on respecting those we love and should there be an issue, matters should always be dealt with mercy and understanding.
Please watch and share.

Every year from 25th November to 10th December there's an important campaign "16 Days of Action against gender based violence".

Sadly abuse is ongoing and it impacts all family members (& others). Abuse isn't always physical, it can be mind games, coercive control, psychological, financial control and much more.

The Quran has been sent as guidance so that each and every family member is respected and loved equally and NOT treated differently because of their gender.

We can all raise awareness of this, you never know who may need that bit of support.
