On Friday we tried a couple of new poses and played around with adapting them to make them more accessible and realistic for my class.

They might look a little different, but they still delivered the same benefits building strength, improving flexibility and creating space in the body.

Just because it doesn’t look “traditional” doesn’t mean it’s not yoga It’s about how it feels, how it supports your body, and how it meets you where you are.

It’s all about making the practice work for you. 😌

Poses we worked on:
🧘🏼‍♀️ Cat-Cow (Marjaryasana–Bitilasana)
🧘🏼‍♀️ Camel (Ustrasana)
🧘🏼‍♀️ One-Legged Cobra with Strap (Eka Pada Bhujangasana)

Adapted Yoga Class:
Fridays 10:30-11:30am
Tuesdays 6-7pm

If would like to come along to a class, get in touch to book a free trial session. 🧘🏼‍♀️

Shooter Robertson takes the green jacket!

Rounds of 72 (+4) and 76 (+3) were enough to get the job done as happy folded with rounds of 102 and 114.

Just a reminder that we are doing this as part of our training for the three peaks raising funds for in memory of the big guy 💚.

Two rounds in and two to go of our 72 hole challenge and Ben Lomond tomorrow morning 🥵.

72 hole challenge, our first Munro and competition time!

We only took 3 minutes this video 🤣.

Myself and chunk (David) are each giving away a 45 minute sports massage all you have to do is guess….

Dale- How many pars or better we will get in the 72 holes?

Chunk- How many balls will we lose in the 72 holes?

The person with the best guess will win and in the event of a tie it will be drawn at random. You can enter both! Comment below or send us your guesses!

Life skills….

Getting off the floor is a critical life skill for someone with a brain injury due to the increased risk of falling and the danger associated with not being able to get back up.

Steven has weakness and limited mobility on one side, impaired coordination and reduced spacial awareness. We’ve built a lot of strength and stability and built this skill step by step, we also practice it most sessions so that it becomes habitual. This skill also builds confidence and promotes independence. Although confidence is not something that Steven lacks in 🤣

One year on….

On Saturday 25th April, myself and David (Chunk) will be climbing the National 3 Peaks (Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike, and Snowdon) in 24hrs for The Golf Trust.

Exactly a year on from the big guy passing and the toughest year mentally of our lives. Myself and David (chunk) want to do this in memory of the big guy and will scatter some of his ashes on each peak.

We will be raising funds for our friends at the golf trust who have an ethos very similar to ours at DR Inclusive Fitness and what better charity to raise funds for in memory of the big guy than a golf one (there aren’t any lager charities 🤣).

Please sponsor us if you can and we would appreciate it if you could share our just giving page 💚

Communication….

Big 55kg deadlift for Colin this week.

I really enjoy working with Colin and continuously learning sign language. It’s the first language that I truly have enjoyed learning and Colin is a great teacher.

It’s also an important part of DR Inclusive being inclusive so that we can communicate with clients such as Colin.

Big strong legs!

Here is Kirsten single leg pressing 20kg on our accessible leg press.

Kirsten is a lot more comfortable with pull movements and pulling things in close to her body but after building some familiarity with the machine, the push movement and a bit of practice she really has taken to the leg press and working her “big strong legs”.

Working on her leg strength helps with her balance and stability which helps a lot with transfers and assisted walking for getting in and out of the car.

On the catwalk…..

Olivia started coming to DR Inclusive Fitness to work with PT Olivia 6 months after having a stroke. She also has cerebral palsy (CP) and a focus for her training is to try and get both sides of her body working while strengthening her legs to make her more independent and confident.

A big part of Olivia’s sessions is making exercise fun and incorporate play into all we do.

One of Olivia’s favourite exercises is to build a cat walk with yoga blocks which works on her hand dexterity for her to then practice her walking along trying to keep her feet on either side of the middle line and then facing forward. She loves to do a pose or a ballet twirl followed by a jump at the end (trying to knock PT Olivia over).

We also use the TRX straps to practice balance as we wiggle the straps Olivia has to try and keep her balance standing on one leg building strength, using her core and she has to grip with her left hand which was effected by her stroke. She always gets her own back by making PT Olivia or Mum do the same exercise.
