We all have so much information about how to help us feel better. And yet, we still carry so much stress and fatigue in our systems.

What I love about health coaching is that it is person-centred: this means that it supports you in sifting through the wealth of stuff out there to help you figure out what is right for you.

As a way to transition my yoga work into my coaching work, I am offering a celebratory FREE online session that will bridge these two world:

**Yoga Beyond the Mat: how to regulate stress, restore energy and build healthier habits**

In this workshop we’ll explore:
• why stress patterns persist in your life even when life seems manageable
• how energy is affected by the nervous system, not only sleep or willpower
• why habits are difficult to sustain when the body feels under pressure
• simple ways to begin restoring steadiness in your daily life

This isn’t a yoga class, and you won’t need to be flexible or experienced.

It’s a practical, gentle introduction to understanding how your body responds to modern life — and what you can realistically do about it.

Stress is often normalised in modern life.

But stress isn’t simply being busy.

It’s a biological response — your nervous system preparing you to act.

Short bursts can be helpful.
Chronic activation is where problems begin.

In my upcoming webinar, we’ll look at how stress shows up in the body, the early signs of burnout, and practical tools to regulate your nervous system in daily life.

If you’d like to understand your stress more clearly, you’re very welcome to join.

A small reassurance — yoga isn’t going anywhere.

And to show that it isn't going anywhere, I want to point you to the regular classes I teach both in person and online.

Classes remain a central part of my week and of this space.

*Tuesdays 5:15pm (Online)*: Forrest Yoga
* Tuesdays 7pm (In-person)*: Functional Recovery and Flow Health Hub in Barnoldswick
* Fridays 7pm (Online; once a month)*: Restorative Yoga

I also host a few events each month in various places around Lancashire and Yorkshire, so check out my events page for that!

What is yoga, really?

For me as for most, yoga begins as a physical practice — someone told us it was good for improving flexibility, strength and relaxation. And because all those things seem good for us we gave it a try.

I still remember the process through which yoga became more for me - my body and mind felt better over time, yes; but other stuff started to happen too: my reactions to life improved, my digestion improved, my skin improved, my outlook on life improved.

I didn't feel so anxious anymore and I felt this immense sense of love and gratitude for all beings.

Then the layers got deeper. Yoga, in its fuller sense, is about how we live.

It’s about awareness. Responsibility. Energy. Choices. And that comes from feeling calm and clear because you can hear your own voice.

It’s how we respond to stress, how we care for ourselves, and how we build habits that support our wellbeing rather than drain it.

In my free online webinar Yoga Beyond the Mat, I’ll be exploring how these principles can help regulate stress and restore energy in real, everyday life.

If that resonates, you’re warmly invited.

Last few days to book and last few spaces left!

What I love hearing about this event is this:
'I wish I didn't have to leave',
'What a lovely way to start a Sunday',
'I'm so glad I decided to do this for myself'.

Movement to feel good, food to nourish, and conversation to feel connected in a way that really matters.

If you've been on the fence about it, here's the link to book: https://bookwhen.com/practicewithsarahleyla/e/ev-swosa-20260308100000

On Sunday 8th March at 10am, I’ll be hosting a special Yoga & Brunch at Phoebe’s in Skipton to mark International Women’s Day.

We’ll begin with slow, intentional yoga to help the body settle and the mind soften — creating space to breathe and reconnect. Afterwards, we’ll gather around the table for brunch, good food, and easy conversation.

It’s a morning designed for nourishment in every sense — movement, connection, and time to simply be.

If you’d love to join us at Phoebe’s on March 8th, comment BRUNCH below or send me a message and I’ll share the booking details 🤍

Many people come to yoga hoping to feel less stressed. That is certainly what attracted me to it when I started practicing nearly 20 years ago. I was exhausted from my really demanding studies and on the verge of burnout (I did eventually burn out, but that's a story for another day!).

What I found through yoga what so much more than a calmer mind. I found a way of living that helps me to feel regulated on a deeper level - let alone many other unexpected changes that came with it (better digestion, better sleep, better skin!).

That is because stress is not only a busy schedule. It is what happens in the body when the nervous system stays switched on for too long — even when life looks manageable from the outside; which can have downshifting effects on many other systems in the body.

You might notice it as:
• tired but wired evenings
• shallow sleep
• tension that doesn’t quite leave
• irritability you don’t recognise as yourself
• difficulty concentrating
• needing constant effort to keep going

In those moments, the body is not asking for more discipline, pushing, or heaven forgive drugs or alcohol. You body is asking for safety in those moments, and probably for attention and silence (story for another day too!)

This is what gentle movement, breathing and rhythm can provide. So simple but with such a profound effect. They help the nervous system realise it no longer has to hold everything together alone.

This understanding sits underneath both my teaching and my coaching work. I'm not suggesting yoga is the only tool that helps with this; and in fact, there is so much more we look at in the coaching space.

Yet sometimes the first step in feeling better is not doing more — but learning how to come back to a steadier state, again and again.
