After a month of listening to your concerns and studying related documents we have submitted our reponse to the Dryden Rd consultation.

We hope you will be inspired to add your own consultation response - which closes this Friday 10th April.

We noted the work of the excellent Wheels for Wellbeing especially their statement on mobility justice:

”Mobility justice is the practice of targeting resources to create or improve journey-making options for those who currently have the least access to transport and mobility. Mobility justice redresses existing inequalities by prioritizing those who are currently excluded. Decision-makers and campaigners should use a mobility justice perspective to ensure public space, transport, active travel and environmental schemes are fair. At present, schemes are too often designed to benefit people who already have the most mobility options, and to exclude people who have few or no mobility options at all.”

This is good to see.

Mid Devon Cycling Club (MDCC) and British Cycling (BC) want to link with as many partners in the Torbay, Teignbridge and wider Devon area to encourage people to 'give cycling a go’ or return to cycling after a break or a life change which has kept them off cycling.

Taking place on 18th April, the event sits within British Cycling’s Limitless programme – a national initiative committed to increasing participation for disabled people. As part of a network of disability-inclusive clubs, Mid Devon CC are proud to play their part in creating supportive, accessible environments where everyone can experience the joy of cycling.

We will provide a range of standard or adapted cycles which people of all abilities can try out including a tandem for those who need a 'guide rider.’

The opportunity to ride in a completely traffic free environment at the velopark means that many of the worries about cycling can immediately be removed.

The day will start at 1100h and finish at 1500h and people are welcome to join for some, or all of the event. For planning and logistics we are asking people to sign up using the form from the QR code on the attached poster.

Safety equipment including, helmets, and knee and elbow pads can be available if needed.

We are also working on providing free parking for those attending and there will be a coffee and refreshments van available throughout.

Should you have any questions do not hesitate to contact us.

This event is just the beginning, Mid Devon CC, British Cycling and partners across Torbay have a number of exciting initiatives planned to improve disability-inclusive cycling.

We'll be putting in a response to this consultation about potential changes to Dryden Rd. We want to ensure that it remains safe for people to use their mobility scooters, wheelchairs, walk, wheel or cycle through or across. We are concerned about the potential increase in traffic that will come with some options too. There are some new zerbra crossings proposed on bits of the Bovemoors Lane road line. Do you have any insights that might help shape our response on behalf of people living with a disability who use active or sustainable travel? If so, please do comment below or get in touch via inclusive.sustainable.travel@gmail.com
We look forward to hearing from you.
Of course, it would be great if you wanted to make your own response too.

Exeter residents are being invited to share their views as Devon County Council launches a public consultation on proposed changes to Dryden Road and the surrounding area from Monday 2 March until noon on Sunday 5 April 2026.

The consultation is looking at measures to address local traffic concerns and to make walking, wheeling and cycling in the area safer, easier and more convenient. A drop in event will also be held on Wednesday 11 March 2026, from 5pm to 8pm, at Wonford Community Centre, Burnthouse Lane, Exeter.

This is inspiring. Could it change society's acceptance of prioritising drivers at every junction?
