The then government promised a report on in February 2021. There was nothing about this in the Road Safety strategy published yesterday. However, there is apparently a statement to be released later today. We're not holding our breath but we'll keep you updated.

Information from UK Parliament on written questions & answers, written statements and daily reports.

The recently opened access from the "Ikea bridge pathway" into the back of big Tescos Exeter Vale is great... unless you are living with a disability and your mobility aid (mobility scooter, bicycle, tricycle, wheeled walker or wheelchair) means are unable to squeeze past parked cars. The trolleys blocking the pathway are also a hindrance. We've written to Tescos today inviting them to reconsider disabled access from this entrance. We'll keep you updated.

We see that the lifts at St David's station will be out of action from 5 January 2026 for several months. Apparently extra staff will be on hand.

We already have several smaller stations without step free access in Exeter. This needs to change.

A major refurbishment project begins next month at Exeter St Davids station.

How great to know this organisation exists
https://www.awa-uk.org.uk/
"Our aim is to raise awareness of the fact that there are people aboard boats with a variety of accessibility needs on our inland waterways. Our waterways also attract people who wish to enjoy the calming and restorative nature of being by water. The Accessible Waterways Association also wants to break down barriers, and influence public attitudes and behaviours toward and around disabled people.

The historic nature of our waterways often means that the needs of the less able are not catered for, yet often some simple changes and adjustments can make all the difference. It is not just those with physical disabilities. People with children in buggies, shopping trolleys or even luggage can experience difficulties negotiating this environment.

The Accessible Waterways Association provides a connection between those who are affected by these issues and those who are in a position to help resolve them. By working closely with the waterways authorities, we can campaign to ensure accessibility needs are placed at the top of the agenda of any planned works. Sometimes, just simply understanding what improvements can be made – rather than just replacing like with like – can make all the difference!"

The Accessible Waterways Association (AWA) UK has been set up to inform, represent, and assist people who live with disabilities...

Two items on the Agenda at DCC cabinet this week - Pavement parking and pavement neglect.

If you agree these are important you could share your personal story with your DCC councillor explaining why this is so vital. Be heard!

Devon County Council Agenda/Minutes: Agenda/Minutes Devon County Council 04 December 2025

Urgent Action on Pavement Vegetation, Neglect, and Public Safety (Minute 39 of 4 September 2025)
This was about the problem of excess vegetation growth on public pavements. Cabinet resolved that Council be recommended to;
(a) continue rectifying safety defects on pavements caused by overgrowth and vegetation;
(b) advise communities of their potential involvement should they wish to do so, if the new parish protocol on highways self-delivery is agreed at Cabinet in December;
(c) work with the Probation Service on clearance areas where possible in the County; and
(d) hold a discussion with other tiers of local government, including DALC, Town and Parish and District on improved working with communities for issues such as this, taking good practice from other initiatives, including asking Team Devon to consider this at a future meeting.

Community Evidence in Pavement Parking Enforcement (Minute 41 of 4 September 2025)
This was about making evidence from the public admissible for enforcing pavement parking. Cabinet resolved that Council be recommended as follows;
(a) that pavement parking is added to the parking report a problem pages, but clarifying that enforcement could only be undertaken in areas where a restriction is in place, for example double yellow lines;
(b) to use such submissions to prioritise enforcement patrols in areas of enforcement and inform Civil Enforcement Officers, who can then record contraventions with direct observation; and
(c) that the suggestion of widening the scope of legislation to enable publicly submitted recordings or photos for enforcement be tabled for debate at the next meeting of the national group PATROL (Parking and Traffic Regulations Outside London).

Did you know there's a survey gathering your opinions on the Exeter Green Circle. There's a £20 prize draw if you complete it.

While some of the Green circle runs on surfaces suitable for wheeling, some surfaces haven't been updated and some gates and barriers make make it less accessible for those living with a disability.
Could you complete the survey and let them know what might be improved?
We'd love to learn what you think - why not tell us below too?

WHY ARE WE WAITING?

Pavement parking is...
Inconsiderate
Dangerous
Socially unacceptable
It blocks... independence, health, social connections & trust in the whole transport ecosystem.

Listen to this from the APPCW group and learn how Scotland got a Pavement Parking ban but we are still waiting.
Start watching at 28mins in, as they had tech trouble.
