Hi,
Today I thought I'd put in a post of the things that I treat and a little explanation of how I might treat them:
Necks - Often people will come with a wry neck or a very sore neck after sleeping funny and it can even cause pins down into one arm.
After a usual assessment of movements in all directions, this is often very easy treated with a mix of deep and gentle massage and trigger points, even ten mins is enough to get a huge improvement in some cases. For much longer term neck issues, I'll use my Thor LX2 laser acupuncture system with biofeedback to find out where the main point of blockage is in the neck which will help me focus my treatments on the ligaments, facet joints, muscles as necessary.
Oh yes, and most everyone loves a nice stretch of their neck and it is very rare people get the gentle traction which you get in treatments like Zero Balancing or CranioSacral.
Backs - Depending on whether someone has a long term problem or recurrent several times a year or something new, I'll do an assessment and then after finding the best exercises for the person to continue with to improve their pain levels, I'll do some bodywork with may include massage, some more deep longer work on some muscles maybe some InfraRed treatment and maybe some Bowen technique if appropriate. A few sessions of the Bowen technique is great for the majority of people I've seen over the past 25yrs, whether its for backs, stress relief, asthma, migraines, pelvic issues, hips, knees etc etc
Ankles - Sprains from going over on the outside of the ankle is the most common injury I see in this area. I will most likely treat the injury with lasers to speed up healing and will likely tape the ankle to prevent further injury. I will regularly reinforce the importance of icing 3-4 times per day in the acute phase. After a few sessions with increasingly difficult balance exercises to regain reflex speeds after injury the ankle can resolve quickly. (I've treated my skateboarder son many times for this and he's been back on his board in a week).
