We had the privilege of delivering a Veteran Connection Programme workshop on Saturday Oct 25th at the University of Exeter.

This particular workshop was especially meaningful as we worked with an all-female group of veteran participants. Their openness, insight, and willingness to share their journeys created a truly powerful space for connection and learning.

Our participants reiterated how much veterans need our Veteran Connection Programme (VCP) because it provides a supportive environment in which to learn how to join and reconnect with groups: an element missing from pre-existing veteran transition support programmes. Another unique element of VCP is that it is co-facilitated by a psychologist and a trained veteran. This means that participants receive cutting-edge evidence-based advice, as well as guidance on how to practically apply this advice from someone with lived experience.

If you are a veteran and are interested in learning more about VCP or signing up for a future workshop, please visit https://lnkd.in/dqFaGR5D

A huge thank you to the incredible veterans who took part in last week's workshop

Meet Olly, a veteran who joined us last year on VCP. We asked him what he felt he had gained from participating on the programme, and he told us:

⚡"I remember it making me more self-aware of my current situation. Everyone's got what they feel is a normal baseline for themselves, but it varies from person to person and it made me... I thought I was doing fairly well on the whole, but it made me appreciate that people have probably wider social and friendship groups than I've got, and that's potentially one area that I've been falling down in the past, I've been mainly focusing on my work life rather than my home life balance. So it helped me push towards being more social."⚡

The Veteran Connection Programme (VCP) is a group-based, peer-facilitated programme co-designed with veterans. It focuses on social connections as a protective factor for mental health, helping veterans to develop the skills needed to manage the transition to civilian life.

Previous workshops have shown improvements in well-being, especially in increasing a sense of purpose and reducing loneliness. Many participants also said that VCP helped normalise their transition and increased the ability to be vulnerable and connected to others.

The programme is currently free to join, and we are offering participation payments of £100, plus travel support.

Our next round of workshops will run in June 2025 in Devon! If you would like to participate, please complete our participation form at https://www.vetconnectprogram.org/participant-info, or email us at info@vetconnectprogram.com.

You will then join 8-12 other ex-forces leavers in a one or two-day workshop guided by a trained veteran facilitator.
