Sardonyx contains both sard (brown/red/orange) and onyx (white/black), hence its name!

This crystal resonates with the base chakra, although the orange version of this stone could also be used at the sacral chakra.

If you are feeling spaced out or are finding it hard to focus on a task: holding Sardonyx or putting a piece in your hip pocket can assist with grounding your energy and bringing everything back into focus.

Orange Sardonyx may soothe period pain or digestive issues, working to remove any blockages or sluggish energy. Try holding a piece of Orange Sardonyx over the area of discomfort until the symptoms have eased.

In a month's time on Saturday 23rd May we will be at The Holistic Wellness Fair being held at the Riverside Community Centre in Bovey Tracey.

We will be offering Reiki Seichem or Crystal Therapy treatments, so please get in touch if you would like to pre-book a session - the fair will be running from 10am to 4pm.

There is a public car park nearby, and entry to the fair is free.

This Saturday, 25th April, we will be at Tiverton Pannier Market from 9am to 3pm with our crystal stall.

Opalite is a manufactured glass named for its opalescent effect, often mistaken for (or mis-sold as) a natural stone.
I have been unable to discover exactly what goes into the mix to create Opalite, but it often contains dolomites (made of calcium and magnesium and other minerals), and metals/metal oxides to give this glass its reflective glow.

There is some controversy over whether Opalite has any metaphysical properties – after all, Obsidian is basically volcanic glass and is used in spiritual work – but a lot of people prefer to work with materials that have formed naturally over millions of years.

I think Opalite has its uses; it would make a good tool to use for a waking meditation, softening your gaze as you observe the glass and using that focus to allow your mind to release all thoughts.

And if you find joy in the beauty of Opalite, then what does it matter whether it has any metaphysical properties or not?

Poppy Jasper is named for its pattern of red spots, like poppy flowers. These orbicular spots are usually on a background of brown/yellow.

This stone is good for getting projects started and bringing fragmented ideas into cohesion.

Poppy Jasper can be placed at the base chakra (groin) during a crystal layout to stabilise the body’s energies.

Carrying Poppy Jasper throughout the day in a hip pocket can help with stamina and determination, encouraging us to keep going (which is why it’s not advisable to work for long periods with this stone if you experience chronic fatigue).

Meditating with Poppy Jasper may assist with examining issues around not being worthy, or not being good enough.

Poppy Jasper can be used to create gem water, but I recommend that you choose a crystal that has a stable structure. (If your Poppy Jasper has any pits or cracks then please use the indirect method.) Sipping this water throughout the day can help to stabilise your energies if you’re going through a challenging time.

Hematite is an iron rich stone that shines silver when tumbled. The iron in Hematite means this crystal feels quite heavy, and the iron content makes it an excellent crystal for grounding energies.

Holding Hematite in your hands or placing by your feet is a good antidote to feeling ungrounded - light headed, spaced out, or like you are not in your body.

During a crystal layout Hematite can be placed at the base chakra, or around the feet to ground any energies that are shifting.

Carrying in a hip pocket may help to ease lower back or hip problems, shifting stuck energies.

Hematite can be used to create gem water. Drinking this water throughout the day can ground an overactive mind and is also said to be useful for blood disorders.

There are quite a few minerals that come under the category of Chlorite, and they are generally green. Chlorite Quartz may have the Chlorite inside the stone, or as a coating on the outside.

This combination works with the heart, base and crown chakras to ground energies and enhance clarity.

Placing a piece of Chlorite Quartz at the heart during a crystal layout can help to clear and balance an underactive or overactive heart chakra.

This crystal has a hardness of 7 on the Mohs scale, so it is suitable to use to create gem water. Sip this water throughout the day to help with personal growth, such as learning a new skill or starting a new job.

According to online dictionaries: the word ‘girasol’ refers to “a type of opal that reflects light in a bright, glowing manner which resembles the brilliance of the sun” (www.definitions.net). This comes from the Spanish word ‘girar’, meaning ‘to turn’ and ‘sol’ referring to the sun.

Girasol Quartz has a high water content, so instead of being completely clear the light reflecting off the water gives this crystal a jelly-like appearance.

Like clear quartz; Girasol Quartz resonates with both the base chakra and crown chakra (although clear crystals can be used at any chakra).

Carrying or wearing Girasol Quartz throughout the day can help with staying focused and being in the present moment.
