My students will remember this: move your spine in its 6 degrees of freedom every day (fw bend, backbend, sidebends left and right, twists left and right).

You're only as old as your spine!

An estimated 80% of the population will suffer from lower back pain at some point. The good news is that preventing it is a lot easier than treating it

Start where you are. Use what you have. Do what you can.

No waiting until you feel fitter, calmer, more flexible or more β€œready.” You show up exactly as you are today, with the body and energy you have.

Some days that might be a lot, some days very little. Both count.

Stretching isn’t why yoga works.

Your nervous system changes through breath, attention and how you meet discomfort.

Flexibility is a side effect.

Not just saying, this is based on a 2019 systematic review of brain imaging studies on yoga (Gothe et al., Brain Plasticity).

The research shows that regular practice (2–3Γ— weekly or more) is linked to changes in brain areas tied to memory, stress regulation and emotional control.
Infrequent practice mainly delivers short-term feel-good effects, just not lasting change.

In other words: yoga works, it works better when it’s consistent.

Love our garden sauna. Relaxing here when it's dark adds a whole other level of sensory de-loading.

Little visual input = instant down-regulation for the brain; ➑️ fewer signals = slower thoughts, parasympathetic shift.

Gentle stimulation of the thermal sense, heat receptors are active, rhythmic and steady = grounding.

The wood, oils and steam engage scent memory and relaxation.

Muffled acoustics, quiet hissing of the water hitting the rocks heightens presence, not stress.

I think a sauna in the dark creates a deep sensory balance, I feel really well now after a day of running around doing school holiday stuff πŸƒπŸ»β€β™€οΈβž‘οΈπŸ’†πŸ»β€β™€οΈ

Just need to move it to Devon now as it's still up in Buckinghamshire πŸ˜…

If you've been following me a while or been to my classes you know that over the years Yin yoga has become my passion.

I've never particularly liked exercise and gyms are the opposite of what my introvert side of my personality can deal with.

But I like moving and I definitely like feeling good about myself, body, mind and soul πŸ™ Yin for me ticks all the boxes, it's the perfect antidote to my, frankly, crazy life.

Why should YOU add yin yoga to your routine?

If you're an active person:

If you love exercise or hit the gym regularly, yin yoga is the perfect balance to your active lifestyle. It helps improve your mobility and flexibility, protect your joints, and prevent injuries caused by tight muscles or overtraining. It also calms your nervous system, helping you recover faster and feel more balanced after intense workouts.

If you're a more inactive person (or if you hate exercise or gyms):

If gyms or exercise aren’t your thing, yin yoga is gentle, accessible, and doesn’t require immediate strength or fitness. It’s a relaxing way to release stiffness in your body from sitting too much or being inactive. Yin also helps reduce stress, ease tension, and bring a sense of calm without breaking a sweat.

So, whether you're always moving or barely moving, yin yoga is a way to restore balance, recharge, and feel better in both your body and mind. Even once a month can make a big difference!

What is Yin Yoga?

Yin yoga is a slow and quiet yoga practice where you hold poses for a long time, usually 3-5 minutes. Unlike other types of yoga that focus on building strength or flowing through movements, yin targets the deep connective tissues like ligaments, fascia, and joints, improving flexibility and mobility on a physical level. Energetically, it stimulates energy pathways (meridians) in the body, helping to clear blockages and restore balance. For your spirit and soul, yin yoga creates a space for self-reflection and deep inner stillness.

Yin is simple, requires patience and is deeply relaxing. If you want to try yin yoga, message me 🀍
