Winter Weather Awareness for our Care Assistants 🎿

We have had a fairly mild winter so far, the days are getting brighter, and spring is on its way! 🌤️ But we still expect icy mornings over the coming weeks, so please take extra care when you’re out and about.

To help keep yourself safe:
❄️ We provide shoe grips and arm covers to help deal with the colder weather, contact the office where we can provide you with the relevant PPE
❄️ If you’re visiting managed or sheltered accommodation, grit or sand should be in place. If not, please let the office or on‑call team know so we can follow this up.
❄️ If you notice difficult access with steep hills, uneven paths, or particularly slippery entrances, report it to the office so we can assess and support where needed.

If you do slip or have any kind of accident, please contact the office team as soon as possible so we can make sure you get the right support.

Staying Safe in the Cold Weather ☃️

Cold weather can be challenging, particularly for older adults during the darker winter months. At Ailsa Care, we’re here to help everyone stay safe, warm, and supported at home.

Top tips for our clients:
🧊 Keep warm indoors: layer up and heat the rooms you use most
🧊 Stay hydrated: warm drinks and regular sips make a big difference
🧊 Ask for help when needed: whether it’s shopping, mobility, or daily tasks

For our care assistants:
❄️ Allow extra travel time and avoid rushing on icy roads
❄️ Wear appropriate footwear with good grip
❄️ Keep your phone charged and let the office know if conditions change
