Ailsa Care's Vintage Tea Party 🍰💜

Last month, we held a vintage tea party for our service users in their homes. It was a moment for our clients and Care Assistants to take a break, enjoy some delicious treats, and share stories over a cuppa.

Pictured are two of our services George and Sadie, who said that they had a wonderful time. One of our other service users noted that the "cakes were amazing"!

Events like these are a lovely reminder of the joy that small moments can bring. Thank you to our dedicated team for making it all possible - and to our clients for letting us share in these special memories. 💐☕✨

Memories and Dementia: Starting the Conversation 📺

The BBC have created a pop-up channel, featuring programmes from across the BBC archive. Each collection gathers together programmes from a specific decade: the 60s, the 70s and the 80s – and the programmes included will feature the best in arts, entertainment, culture and news events of the era.

Studies show that early memories, particularly those from childhood and young adulthood, tend to last the longest in individuals with dementia. This occurs because these memories are often deeply ingrained and associated with strong emotional experiences. As dementia progresses, the ability to recall recent events diminishes, but older memories can remain relatively intact for a longer period.

Nostalgic TV, such as the BBC's pop-up channel featuring programmes from the 60s, 70s, and 80s, plays a crucial role in stimulating these early memories. By revisiting iconic moments from the past, viewers can experience a sense of familiarity and comfort. This can be particularly beneficial for individuals with dementia, as it helps to create connections and stimulate cognitive function. The curated content aims to spark joy and nostalgia, providing a comforting and familiar experience for individuals and their families. 💛

We received wonderful feedback from a client who was recently unwell. Christine (pictured first) and Megan (pictured second) both encouraged our service user to seek medical attention, and they both made him feel at ease as it was a sensitive situation.
