They thought I was an extrovert and invincible, but secretly, I’m an introvert living an extroverted life. I need my quiet time to recharge.

When I faced my first severe anxiety and panic attack, it surprised me and those around me. What began as occasional anxiety escalated to daily attacks, leaving me unable to leave my home. My husband handled the shopping, and my close friends ensured I attended events as my mental health deteriorated.

At the time, I was perimenopausal, but no one linked my hormones to my anxiety and depression. It became a dark time, and I struggled to see a way forward. A glimmer of hope from my family helped me through those moments.

Now, I thrive while living with anxiety. I’ve learned to pace myself and maintain balance in my life. Each day is a mental health day for me. I check in with my emotions and assess my energy, deciding on activities that suit my state of mind.

Mental health is vital, and we must prioritise it daily. Comparing ourselves to others can be misleading; our feelings are influenced by many factors. Make time for what sets your soul on fire and seek out those who understand and support you.

What will you do for yourself today? 💚

🧠 It’s ! Here are my top tips for prioritising your mental well-being, based on both professional insights and personal experience with anxiety.

Prioritise Yourself
It’s okay to be selfish sometimes! Engage in activities that help you relax and recharge—whether it’s meditation, exercise, reading, or enjoying nature. Do more of what brings you joy.

Stay Connected
Isolation can feel protective, but social connections are crucial for emotional support. If you notice someone becoming isolated, reach out. Your connection might be what they need.

Express Your Feelings
Don’t hesitate to share how you’re feeling. It’s okay not to be okay, and opening up can lighten the burden. You might be surprised at how many people relate to your experience.

Seek Professional Help
If you feel overwhelmed, reach out to a mental health professional, therapist, or coach. Professional guidance can provide the tools you need to manage your mental health effectively.

Practice Mindfulness
Techniques like yoga, deep breathing, or mindfulness can help reduce anxiety and improve focus. Regular practice is essential for mental well-being.

Limit Social Media
Social media can lead to feelings of inadequacy. Take breaks to focus on real-life connections and experiences that nurture your well-being.

Educate Yourself and Others
Learn about mental health to break down myths and misconceptions. Share your knowledge and support others in understanding its importance.

Establish a Routine
A stable routine can bring order to chaotic times. Regular sleep, meals, and breaks from social media can greatly benefit your mental health.

Engage in Physical Activity
Exercise, even a short walk, boosts mood and reduces anxiety. It’s vital for elevating your well-being.

Practice Gratitude
Reflect on what you’re thankful for each day, no matter how small. Gratitude can shift your perspective and enhance your overall well-being.

This , let’s advocate for better mental health for everyone!

🧠 So, why do we raise awareness around mental health?

Today is , and it’s a powerful reminder of why mental health awareness matters.

Mental health is often stigmatised, preventing many people – myself included – from seeking the help they need. By raising awareness, we normalise conversations around mental health, challenge societal misconceptions, and encourage people to talk openly about not being okay. What you do today might inspire someone else to reflect on their own well-being.

Mental health services remain critically underfunded and underprovided in many parts of the world. Raising awareness promotes equitable access to mental health care and highlights the need for better resources. It’s also about building supportive, empathetic communities where people feel safe to share their stories without fear of judgement.

This awareness isn’t just about today – it’s about early intervention, self-care, and resilience-building to prevent mental health issues from escalating. It’s also about policy advocacy, encouraging governments and policymakers to invest in mental health programmes that offer long-term support.

So, on this , what are you doing to raise awareness and support mental well-being?

10/10/2024

You're probably well aware that today is , observed every year on 10th October to raise global awareness of mental health issues.

This year the focus is on mobilising efforts to support mental well-being and reduce the huge stigma that still surrounds mental health challenges.

It’s a vital reminder of the need to prioritise mental health, not just for ourselves, but for our communities. By fostering understanding and compassion, we can create environments where conversations about mental health are open and free from judgement.

So, what are you doing today to raise awareness around mental health? How do you support your own well-being and that of those around you? Let’s share our efforts in the comments and keep building a culture of care and support! 💚

Why The Wellness Anarchist?

All the things I wanted to say and do, but I was tied up running a business. I was so busy looking after everyone else I forgot what I was fighting for. So this is me. Raw. A bit sweary sometimes. Frustrated and very honest about having it all. (or least pretending to have it all)

As for the title? When you have lost so much, you suddenly find yourself again. I feel, I have nothing to lose by sharing lessons that could help others. It is the transfer of knowledge that sets my soul on fire.
