From September I will attending Jozef's dream play group the second Tuesday of every month.
If you have got little ones with disabilities this is the perfect play group. Staff have tons of experience supporting children with disabilities and is a safe environment to ask questions about life with a little one with disabilities.
As an added bonus I will be there to support with any questions about your little one's respiratory health. Coughs, phlegm, chest infections, breathing...
or simply come along for some casual play ๐Ÿคฉ๐Ÿฉตโœจ

World brain day is today! 22nd of July ๐ŸŽค
I have always been fascinated by how the body works as a whole despite clinicians wanting to specialise in just one part ๐Ÿคช
This is a great example. Many conditions that affect the brain will inevitable have an impact on your respiratory function.
This may show us
๐Ÿ“ breathlessness
๐Ÿ“ weak cough
๐Ÿ“ increased phlegm
๐Ÿ“ chest infections
๐Ÿ“ decreased exercise tolerance

Did you know? Have you or someone you know experienced any of these symptoms?

๐Ÿ˜ฎโ€๐Ÿ’จ it's not that there are many ways to describe a cough. It's that there are DIFFERENT TYPES OF COUGHS.
Knowing the cause and characteristics can be a step forward in getting the right treatment for it. ๐ŸŒŸ ๐ŸŒณ ๐Ÿซ

A lot of the patients that come to respiratory physiotherapy sessions haven't been explained what happens in their lungs. They don't even know what lung anatomy looks like and how their condition particularly affects this anatomy.

I almost always start telling them a story with this simile that I really like.
If you think of your lungs like an upside down tree ๐ŸŒณ or even an upside down broccoli ๐Ÿฅฆ , they've got the main trunk, which is your main bronchus, that divides into two branches and then lots of smaller branches and then the alveoli, we could say that are the little leaves.

Now in some conditions like bronchiectasis, the leaves dilate, the alveoli dilate, losing tension, therefore making it hard to push out rid the mucus ๐Ÿฆ

This is one of many ways that I use to describe to people what happens in the lungs so that they know why certain techniques are more relevant to them and why it is important that they receive respiratory physio treatment.

I am hoping to connect with any community projects where respiratory physio may fit in.
Primarily with businesses or community organisations in Cornwall but also happy to link further afield.

Why do respiratory physiotherapists recommend nasal rinsing? ๐Ÿซ๐Ÿ‘ƒ๐Ÿ’ฆ

Physiotherapy explains why nasal washes, nasal irrigation, and sinus rinsing are key to better breathingโ€”especially for those with conditions like asthma, COPD, chronic rhinitis, or sinus issues.

โœ… Helps clear nasal passages for optimal breathing
โœ… More thorough than standard nasal sprays
โœ… Gentle & effective for adults and even kids (from age 5!)

A clear nose means better airflow, better breathing, and a healthier airway. Have you tried nasal rinsing before? Let us know in the comments! ๐Ÿ‘‡
