🦶 Understanding Achilles Tendinopathy
Pain, swelling or stiffness at the back of your heel? It could be Achilles tendinopathy - irritation of the tendon that connects your calf to your heel and helps you walk, run and rise onto your toes.
👣 Who does it affect?
- Runners & athletes
- Anyone starting or increasing exercise
- People of all ages
🔹 Common symptoms
- Pain or swelling around the tendon
- Stiffness after rest
- Pain when pushing off through your toes
It often develops gradually due to overloading, training errors, poor footwear, age or genetics.
⚠️ Left untreated, the tendon can weaken and in severe cases may rupture.
✅ How we treat it
- Tailored strengthening exercises
- Orthotics (if needed)
- Shockwave therapy
- Footwear advice
💡 Rest alone isn’t the answer - tendons need gradual loading to heal properly.
