Avoid / Defend / Explain but let’s not discuss the concerns parents being our way. It’s like dealing with the men I choose 🙈

and yet the comments are usually …. Home educate then!

Well to home educate means leaving a parents job. It means paying for classes. It means taking a financial strain. It means leaving familiar faces and routines. It means changing the parent / child relationship to teacher / child relationship. In some cases it doesn’t suit some children / families. Especially if the child’s main difficulties are emotional and social rather than educational. My son loves his learning for example (and his teacher) but he still has needs that can’t be met 😢

Fun fact - I also do home educate my daughter. For some children it’s necessary.

BUT parents are being forced into home education due to reasonable adaptations just not being put in place. Simple, small adjustment’s.

Funding! I know it’s non existent.
School staff we know it’s not your fault (before you come at me in the comments). But remember it’s not parents fault either and it’s still happening.
It’s not us versus you - it’s just us sharing a need that has huge consequences on a child’s life.
That’s okay.
You would if it were your child too.

Do you have a child with ASD/ADHD/PDA? Remember the longer you sit on the wrong train, the more expensive the trip back will be. Need help finding the path that best suits you and your family? Reach out (links in bio).

Sometimes a new path can look like:

New behaviour strategies that actually work.
Support for parents to feel less isolated or misunderstood.
Help with applying for DLA/EHCPs.
Finding new home education routines
Introduction of new Behaviour Therapies
Reasonable adaptations put in school (that actually work).
Letters written to school advocating for your child’s needs.
Moving from labelling bahaviours to labelling (and supporting) needs instead.
Empowering parents in professional meetings with care plans of child’s needs directing meetings away from parental stigma and onto child’s needs.

I’m here for all of it! (Links in bio)

A different kind of Christmas. https://wix.to/Zyd9587

If you are parent to a child with ASD/ADHD/PDA then Christmas can look different in your house - mine too!

My favourite tip - purchase xmas sensory decorations/toys to leave around the house, everywhere! Everyone love them and they regulate without allocating specific regulating time.

Check out this NEW blog post on strategies you can use to make the day a little easier.

My child with ASD/ADHD/PDA always seems to stand alone. Often wandering off into their own little world. I guess it's safer in their own bubble - away from everyday demands and overwhelm. Few friends and therefore invites to new places but also difficulties accessing those mainstream places anyway (a catch 22). Sometimes I watch, my child seems content but I feel a deep sadness. Every child deserves to be seen. Need support in nurturing that connection, supporting neurodiverse needs, and giving your child the confidence to be their authentic selves? Visit https://wix.to/sSDJYlR to learn more 🌱🤝 . Click to explore and start making small changes today!

Sometimes it just goes wrong! I took my child with ASD/ADHD/PDA to the fireworks the other evening. Should we have gone? Nope! Did we go? Yes. Did we think it would be worth it and he would enjoy it once there? Also yes. Were we wrong? Also yes! Supporting neurodiverse families, like mine, starts with small, consistent steps: clear routines, realistic expectations, celebrating progress but also accepting that you can have all that in place and it can still go wrong. Acceptance and respite needed! . If you just need someone who genuinely understands those moment to moment frustrations and you want to 'share the load' - come and do so - emotional regulation for us adults starts with having someone who can understand. Screen time is not bad for children with ASD/ADHD/PDA. It is regulation. Screen time should never be used as consequences for challenging behaviour. Children with ASD/ADHD/PDA can have difficulties in the real world with masking, limited social and communication skills, overwhelm, anxiety also sensory processing difficulties. Screen time can help regulate the nervous system by blocking all of that out and providing a safe environment that is just theirs. Sure, we want to encourage other activities such as getting outside but a happy medium can be achieved between the two. Screens are not the enemy we have been led to believe they are!
