The long term effects of pregnancy and childbirth in sleep satisfaction and duration of first time and experienced mothers and fathers.
This is an interesting study which is published in the ‘Sleep’ journal.
There are a few limitations, however it shows how parents have a marked decline in sleep satisfaction, which can continue for up to six years.

Please reach out for help if you are struggling to settle your baby or take a look at my website. BabyserenityUK.com

Together we can work on improving sleep for the family 🙂

Colic
Being a parent can have its challenges and one of the early problems we as parents are confronted with is an unsettled baby. Periods of excessive crying, baby appearing in discomfort and no matter what we do, he is not able to be settled or calmed.
If all the obvious things have been ruled out, such as a feed, nappy change, room temperature or clothing adjusted as needed, then I start to look at other reasons why baby is so unsettled.
One of these other causes of unsettled behaviour can be colic. So what exactly is colic?
Babies who cry inconsolably, between the ages of two weeks and three months can be suffering with colic. You will observe very unsettled behaviour and despite trying to comfort and calm baby he does not calm for long. He may bring his legs up to his abdomen and suck madly on his hands. There are also long periods of high pitched cries which can be in short bursts. You may even notice his stomach tightening.
Contact me or take a look at my website Babyserenityuk.com if you are interested in looking at ways to help your baby with these uncomfortable symptoms.

We’ve looked at the impact of lack of sleep on parents and caregivers, but how does it impact on our little ones🤔
These are just some ways that lack of sleep can affect our babies or toddlers

-An unhappy baby. They can become overstimulated and stressed
-Poor feeding which can be either over feeding or under feeding
-The more sleep deprived baby is, the more challenging they can become to settle
-There can be a lack of opportunity for bonding with parents/caregivers
-When baby has enough sleep, they are likelier to have a healthier immune system
-There can be more tantrums and challenging behaviours when they are toddlers, if they are sleep deprived
-It can effect growth and development as the growth hormone is released during sleep

*Strained relationships within the family
*Short tempered
*Poor interactions between parent and infant
*Poor concentration when undertaking tasks such as work or driving
*Low energy
*Low libido
*Reduced cognitive function
*Poor appetite, either over eating or eating too little
*Contributes to post natal depression

Moving onto solid food for the first time is an exciting step in your baby’s life, but sometimes it can be overwhelming for new parents who want to make their own baby food, but aren’t sure where to start.
One of the main benefits of making your own baby food is being able to control exactly what you put in, which means that your baby food is less processed than shop-bought stuff, has less salt and sugar, is free of preservatives, and is made with fresh, nutritious ingredients. It’s more affordable, too 🙂
Take a look at my website Babyserenityuk.com or send me a message or email if you would like some support around transitioning to solids.

Welcoming the new baby to the family!
If you’re getting ready for the arrival of your baby or you have a newborn who you’re starting to settle into their own room, now is a good time to think about how to create the right sleeping environment for your baby. The first decision to make is which room you’ll put your baby in. You may have limited options in your home but if you can, choose a room that is unlikely to get too much noise from outdoors or your neighbours.
Take a look at my website babyserenityuk.com or send me a message if you feel that you would like some support with this.

I am excited to be posting again and am looking at providing mentorships for those who are interested in having support and advice around parenting.

Ways for a new mother to bond with her baby.

It’s expected that new mothers feel an incredible rush of love the moment they set eyes on their newborn baby, but what if you don’t feel that?
While some mothers feel that unconditional love and bond for their baby instantly, that maternal instinct can take weeks or even months for some mothers to develop, and motherhood can bring a range of difficulties and mental health issues, but the important thing to remember is that you’re not alone.
According to the National Childbirth Trust (NCT), around a third of mums don’t feel that instant bond with their newborn, and it can be for many reasons such as a difficult birth, trouble adjusting to motherhood, or sometimes for no obvious reason at all.
While bonding is an ongoing process, there are things that parents can do to get to better know their baby and improve on that bond.

If you would like support with this, take a look at our article on the website or alternatively call for more support with your parenting concerns.
