Have you ever wondered about the magic of Cupping?
Our client, Sarah, did.... and she has fallen head over heels in love with the process and the benefits she has from her fortnightly sessions.
At Hawkinge Holistic Health, we use Dry Cupping, using a vacuum sealing plastic cups. It looks a bit freaky, right? But what are the reasons we would do cupping?
Let's ask from a Traditional Chinese Medicine perspective....
Removal of Stagnation and Pain Relief: Cupping is highly effective for breaking up blood stasis and energetic obstructions in the body, which are primary causes of pain in TCM. By lifting the skin and fascia, cupping facilitates the release of muscle tension, adhesions, and knots, providing relief for chronic back pain, neck pain, and stiff muscles.
Promotion of Blood and Qi Circulation: The suction created by the cups forces fresh, nutrient-rich blood and Qi into the area, nourishing tissues and speeding up the healing process. This enhanced microcirculation helps resolve chronic injuries and reduces muscle spasms.
Dispelling Cold and Dampness (Pathegenic Factors): Cupping is frequently used to "pull out" external pathogens—such as cold and damp—that have settled in the muscles and joints, often manifesting as aches or heavy sensations. It is widely used to treat the early stages of a common cold or bronchial congestion, helping to clear phlegm from the lungs.
Detoxification and Internal Balance: The suction draws toxins and waste materials from the deeper tissue layers toward the surface, assisting the lymphatic system in eliminating them. This acts as a form of "purging" or "leaking" to remove impurities, thereby strengthening the body’s resistance.
Relaxation and Balancing the Nervous System: Beyond its local effects, cupping is known to calm the shen (spirit) and reduce stress by triggering the parasympathetic nervous system, lowering heart rate, and promoting deep relaxation.
