Andy was absolutely brilliant! Our outdoor croft wedding had it all — a beautiful wildflower aisle, stunning views, and a proper Highland breeze that gave John’s kilt a life of its own — but Andy handled it perfectly. He made the ceremony feel intimate and personal, even with 80 guests tucked into the marquees hiding from 45‑mph winds after a storm. His humanist approach was thoughtful, warm, and brought just the right mix of heartfelt moments and gentle humour.

Today’s wedding took place on the beautiful banks of the River Ness at the Glenmoriston Town House & Hotel. 💍✨

We blended two wonderful families, brought together by a love that found its own time and its own way.

It was a day full of joy, warmth, and connection — the kind of celebration that reminds you just how special these moments are.

That’s all I’ll say for now — I’ll let Lianne and Greig share more of their story when they’re ready. But it was truly an honour to be part of it.

There are 64 countries globally where being gay is still illegal, meaning they have laws that criminalize homosexual acts.

We are so lucky that here in Scotland we have rights that reach far beyond the protections on offer even in other parts of the UK.

Humanist unions are still not legal in England and Wales however if carried out elsewhere they are recognised. Meaning that in order to have a legal Humanist union you must travel to Scotland or Northern Ireland.

However our rights are only as strong as the next government, which is why we still speak out, which is why we still march.

If I can offer one piece of advice—not just as a humanist celebrant, but as a grandson, brother, son, uncle, and friend—it’s this: take photos. Loads of them.

Take the silly ones, the candid ones, the slightly blurry ones. Even if someone doesn’t love being in front of the camera, try to gently get them in a few. You never know when a moment will be your last with someone.

I know some people really dislike having their photo taken—and I respect that—but pictures can become precious. Memories fade. Time blurs details. But photos hold those fragments of life still, helping us remember not just how someone looked, but how it felt to be with them.

So take the picture. Then take another. You’ll be glad you did.
