It’s a beautiful sunny & fresh day, are you all wearing SPF on your face? chemical spf 15 in your moisturiser or foundation doesn’t count 😳
During the summer months we all consider SPF, however, you should protect your face EVERYDAY, and here’s why and how.
The most important item to look for on a sunscreen label is the term “broad spectrum”, signifying coverage against both UVA and UVB rays. These rays damage skin cells and their DNA, leading to fine lines, wrinkles, irregular pigmentation, visible vessels, thinned skin, loss of elasticity and skin cancer.
UVB rays cause short term damage which presents as a tan and sunburn, as they damage the skin’s superficial layers.
UVA rays are less talked about, yet cause more long term damage, as these are able to pe*****te into the deeper skin layers, affecting collagen, elastin and blood vessels. Daily exposure causes gradual damage to skin and accounts for around 90% of the signs of skin ageing.
UVA rays can pass through glass and clouds and are present every single day of the year at equal intensity during all daylight hours, whether it’s a bright and sunny day or a cloudy rainy day.
This is why broad spectrum SPF should be worn everyday of the year, it is your best defence against all skin complaints, especially early signs of ageing.
My personal favourite broad spectrum sunscreen, which I apply every morning as a tinted moisturiser is Sheer Hydration from Alumier. These are 100% physical range of sunscreens with a beautiful finish.
