We are walking to raise funds for the Darvel Dinner Ladies!!
Our wee Ladies of West Park enjoy the ‘music and cake’ days so much and when I told them that the Dinner Ladies had applied for funding to help with the cost of these events and were unsuccessful they wanted to do something to help.
We chatted and decided that the challenge would be 5,000 collective steps a day for 2 weeks. They can’t wait to start and raise funds for such a worth while cause.
The amount that the Darvel Dinner Ladies applied for was £300 so our residents hope that they can raise this for them. Every penny raised will go straight to the Darvel Dinner Ladies Group.
The Darvel Dinner Ladies volunteer their spare time to run these events and also run a free wheelchair service throughout Darvel, Newmilns and Galston. This wheelchair service has helped so many members of the public.
This money will help the Darvel Dinner Ladies so much but for our West Park residents, taking on this challenge isn’t just about raising money.
It’s about giving back.
It’s about pride.
It’s about purpose.
It’s about helping a group of volunteers who have helped them—and so many others.
We are hoping that with the support of the community we can make this happen!
A Message From Christine Campbell, Darvel Dinner Ladies
“**Darvel Christmas Dinner Ladies group was formed eight years ago, initially to bring a free Christmas lunch with entertainment to Darvel residents.
Over the past six years, during and after COVID, we were involved in food provision to our shielding communities. We have evolved to assist our three communities—Darvel, Newmilns and Galston—with a free wheelchair and mobility service, and outreach monthly ‘music & cake’ events, which are seasonal from August to December, bringing our communities together in hospitality and entertainment. 2026 will be our fourth year running these events.
Our group is run entirely by volunteers, and we fundraise throughout the year to fund our events.
We also run a Facebook ‘pay it forward’ page.**”
Our five determined West Park ladies are Mary, Catherine, Linda, Barbara and Isobel.
Every step they take is a step toward supporting a group that has brought joy, comfort, and community spirit to so many.
Let’s cheer them on, support their journey, and help them reach that £300 goal. Together, our community can make something truly special happen.
