Running is so humbling.

I did my ultra very ill, and only got more ill as a result.

It's now been 3.5 months of all-over-the-place heart rates and unpredictable recovery, so now it's time to claw back some of those gains.

Yes it may feel terrible, but you don't lose physiological adaptations that quickly.

Secondly, it doesn't change how pretty the route is! Going slower just means you get to enjoy it more.

Even if you do need to cut down the route a bit...

I love data. I love my HR monitor. But when I started running as an obese teenager, did zone 2 HR and paced-miles pull me into shape?

Hell no.

I had the luxury of ignorance, being fat at a time when the internet wasnt as full of information and data as it is now. My fitness rules were simple: just go and train.

As coaches we have the luxury of working with so many diverse individuals and learning all the nuances of their specific needs.

That means that while we get to geek out with the fit weekend warriors and elite athletes over lactate measures and training zones, we also get to work with people taking their first step on the ladder.

It's easy to think the rules that apply to former must apply to the latter, but they simply don't.

Truth is... It's just about time on feet.

If you want to run a 10k, half, or full marathon, you just need to get comfortable plodding along and enjoying the views. Enjoying the experience.

Sprints, threshold sessions and watches that shout at you can all come later.

Hi all! Has anybody here found the online running space to be a bit full of ....?

Or just a bit full!?

I'm an accredited nutritionist and exercise physiologist. I've coached for over 12 years, all in person and through word of mouth.

I've been advised to produce 'content' about coaching and running, but I feel there is so much out there I don't see what would or could be contributed!

So, I thought I should ask the people that are actually involved in this amazing sport, the people at the ground level (literally), what they feel is missing from the current landscape?

What do you feel you don't get or can't find from content online? Is there anything you wish was accessible to you?

I really am just trying to do a bit of my own research and get caught up with the space, though honestly it just seems like anything outside of zone 2 just isn't interesting, apparently.

What do you think?

Good To Go by Christie Aschwanden

If you start something, you finish it.
Today was about tying up every loose end before heading back to the UK. One day, too many jobs, and that familiar feeling of everything piling up at once.
So I prioritised, worked through the list, and finally finished the dock — a job that started a year and three weeks ago.
Then it was just rep after rep: food used up, piles sorted, property mowed, new lock fitted, chapter closed.
That’s all progress really is. Nothing big. No motivation. Just repeatedly doing what needs done until it’s finished.
Free ebook in the link in bio or at cgrcooke.com/ebook if you want to learn the system for yourself. Hopefully speak soon.

Two weeks of waiting… then suddenly the clock was against us. Delivery day, noise restrictions, limited hours, and a lot to get done.
Not perfect, not finished, but far enough along to sit on the new deck and watch the sunset.
That’s the reminder: progress doesn’t need to be flawless to count. Sometimes good enough today beats perfect someday.
Build it, use it, enjoy it.

I’d been obsessively checking numbers, views, downloads, trying to force movement. So I left the phone behind and took the old bomber out for a ride.
Bit of headspace, bit of perspective, bit of road noise instead of screen noise.
Progress isn’t always doing more. Sometimes it’s creating enough space to see clearly what needs doing next.

Social media can feel like a thankless slog. Hours tweaking ads, rebuilding pages, trying to solve problems… with very little to show for it straight away.
So when that gets old, it’s back to real work. Rain, timber, problem solving, and trying to build a dock with beams that suddenly became a game of Tetris.
Then back inside to find Meta had disabled the ads anyway. Character building stuff.
If you’ve looked at the site and have any feedback, I’d genuinely appreciate it.

Not much of a day off today. Just books, notebooks, bad signal, dead batteries, and hours trying to build something worthwhile.
Sometimes the work nobody sees is the work that matters most. I’ve put a lot into this because helping people get healthier genuinely means something to me.
If you want to see what I’ve built, grab it at cgrcooke.com/ebook

Make sure to check junk folders of it hasn't arrived within a minute.
