So after watching another mare get up and down a few times in the early hours on the day of our local Ayr show I was all set to let Stuart take his Clydesdale himself but in the couple of hours it took to get ready the mare had settled and all was quiet.
We shot to the show, arriving last but in time, did our class and championship then shot straight back home all the time with the camera on.
We needn’t have worried because all was quiet when we returned.
Sitting watching the same mare later on I noticed another girl wandering off on her own to the far side of the field.
Sure enough Shallochmill Haile had decided to jump the queue and chose to try to hide behind our cow, Frankie to sneak her foal out in the dark.
Frankie 🐄 wanted to steal it but otherwise all was straightforward.
Carrying on the theme of runners or athletes it was Elspeth Crawford who googled the track and field athlete Amarachi P**i so meet Shallochmill P**i, a filly by show winner Jambarrie Luigi out of Highland show junior champion Shallochmill Haile.
My first great grandchild this one was always going to be a keeper ❤️

Introducing the fifth foal to be born at the Mill this year, Shallochmill Rhonan.
Out of my homebred girl Shallochmill Little Ellie(Kerswell Sprite) and by Timberland Limited Edition(Kerswell Nutcracker) this little man is going to stay and be run on as a future stallion all being well.
I bought Timberland Limited Edition as a yearling, he then ran two summers with a good friend Rhona Hyslop better known for her Carrick Highland Ponies. Rhona fell in love with Ed and purchased him but it was always our intention to use him, Rhona had even earmarked Little Ellie for him when she was a yearling.
When Rhona fell ill Ed came back to me at a time I really didn’t need any more boys so he’s off to another stud to keep busy.
Named after her Rhonan is very chunky, looks to have everything in the right place, is going to be an interesting blue dun and of course carries the different bloodlines of Ed and of my best boy Sprite.
When Ellie stops hiding him away I’ll post some more pics…..

I’ve a lot going on just now between big horses, new foals, foal watch, etc so not much time for updates. Currently we have five healthy foals but we’re not finished yet.
So here is a glimpse of the first batch of babies and I’ll post full descriptions when I get a minute.

From having just one foal for weeks I ended up with another three within 24 hours ! Thankfully all foalings were pretty much straightforward although I’m sure my blood pressure is through the roof.
I’ll introduce the first one next but here is number two Shallochmill Milky Way my first foal by Jambarrie Lion King and out of Shallochmill Pic N Mix(Eiger Bertie)and what a foal he is 😍
Born at 4.30am he popped out straight, strong and ready to go and he hasn’t stopped since.

By now I should’ve had a few foals on the ground but my girls are clearly not in a rush. I’ve never known a season like it for their bags(udders) to fill up then soften off giving no indication when they’ll foal. The cameras are on, I’m hands on several times a day and for now I’ll just need to wait 😴
Meantime four boys went out to meet girlfriends looking extremely happy to have some ‘work’ to do.
Deposit received 💥 And I’ve decided it’s time to let one yearling filly to go so if anyone is looking for a friendly, well bred, blue dun as a pet, companion, etc give me a shout x

Still just one wee girl here at the Mill. The other girls are keeping me on my toes looking filled up one minute then half empty the next I’m not sure if it’s the really hot weather that’s confusing them or they’re taking it in turns to keep me on edge.
Shallochmill Ivy(name tbc) is having a great time playing with her aunties and greeting every human who comes to say hello.

With a dry spell forecast it was time to put the youngsters out onto fresh grazing. We’re lucky to have some extra ground available this year with plenty of grass, fabulous views and the ponies have their own little girl to play with in the shape of niece Drew.
Flu jabbed, wormed, feet trimmed and off out to grow on are three two year olds and three yearling fillies.
