ck yourself up again. I am an Occupational Therapist with over 40 years’ experience in mental health. As a member of the original team who formulated and established the therapeutic treatment programmes for the Priory Hospital in Glasgow, I have vast experience in both individual and group therapy. I have a particular focus on eating disorders and worked in the specialist eating disorders unit at the Priory for a number of years before broadening my experience to the voluntary sector, mentoring adults and providing psychotherapeutic counselling. I have also been heavily involved in the Children’s Panel and sat on the Children’s Panel Advisory Committee for a number of years. My passion in life is to help others and to help you to find a way to be happy with what you have and to pursue all that you want

How we speak to ourselves often defines how we subsequently feel! Being mean and unkind to ourself chips away at our self confidence and self esteem. You would never consider doing this to others so we have to try and treat ourselves with the same care and respect!
Self criticism is such a deadly, damaging and powerful weapon!

We all worry about how other people see us but some of us are overly concerned about what others think of them and become anxious and unhappy at the thought of anyone disliking, being disapproving or being offended in any way by them. No one’s value as a person is dependent on anyone else’s approval! We can’t like everyone and not everyone can like us!
At the end of the day what others think of us is really none of our business!

When someone is struggling with their mental health the recurring thoughts are often “ why is everyone else coping with their life and I can’t! “ “ I’m less than others because I’m unable to manage and others can! “
Thoughts like these are absolutely untrue in so many ways and are so damaging for our self esteem and self confidence!
It’s so important not to judge but to support and be there!

We all predict anxiety sometimes, but when there are so many “ what ifs “ in our head all the time it makes it so hard to try and stay in the present where we all need to be! Most of the time the bad things we spend so much time and energy anticipating they will happen don’t actually happen anyway!
It’s hard work challenging our “ what ifs “ but living with constantly heightened anxiety is also exhausting!

We’re all anxious and worried sometimes but for some of us every day there’s something to worry about! Every day we’re faced with a list of “ what ifs “ which makes life fraught and exhausting! The problem with “ what ifs “ is they take away any chance of joy or pleasure in the here and now! There are effective and healthy ways to manage anxiety especially when it’s a constant companion!
