Discussing death is often avoided, yet these conversations can be profoundly meaningful, comforting, and affirming. Opening up about mortality creates space for emotional well-being, allowing individuals to express fears, hopes, and uncertainties—often reducing anxiety and fostering peace.

When people share their end-of-life wishes, it ensures their preferences are understood and respected. This clarity empowers loved ones to make informed decisions with confidence, minimizing confusion and emotional strain later on.

Such dialogue can also strengthen relationships. Honest communication about expectations helps prevent conflict during difficult moments and supports smoother decision-making when time is critical.

These discussions frequently lead to practical steps—like writing a will, outlining advance care directives, or planning funeral arrangements. Taking action in advance brings reassurance and eases the burden on family and friends.

Ultimately, acknowledging the reality of death can deepen our appreciation for life. Recognizing its finite nature often inspires people to live more intentionally, mindfully, and with greater purpose.

Come along tomorrow night. Thanks 🙏

Online support for bereaved parents.

TCF are holding an online support group for bereaved parents living in Scotland and Northern Ireland who have limited access to in-person support on Tuesday 3 February, 7-8.30pm.

This online session, facilitated by trained bereaved parent volunteers, offers an opportunity for mutual sharing, support and connection with parents in other areas of Scotland and Northern Ireland.

A parent who previously took part said, "I wasn’t really sure what to expect and don’t have a lot of experience attending online groups, but I felt safe and supported and comfortable to listen and share."

Burns Epitaph on Friend

Epitaph on a Friend by Robert Burns:

An honest man here lies at rest,
As e’er God with His image blest:
The friend of man, the friend of truth;
The friend of age, and guide of youth:
Few hearts like his, with virtue warm’d,
Few heads with knowledge so inform’d:
If there’s another world, he lives in bliss;
If there is none, he made the best of this.

Happy Burns Night! 267 years since the birth of Scotland's bard, millions of people all over the world will celebrate Robert Burns this evening, raising a glass, eating traditional Scots food and reciting poetry all in memory of oor rantin' rovin' Robin.

From his humble beginnings here in Alloway, who could have guessed his story would grow into this, all these years later? However you are celebrating the bard's birthday this year, remember to raise a glass to him, the pride of our nation, this evening🥃
