Looking forward to presenting at the Professional Beauty Growth Summit in Glasgow.

At Root Cause Clinical, we focus on understanding why things work — and that applies just as much to team dynamics as it does to client care.

In this session, I’ll be breaking down the foundational strategies behind building a motivated, high-performing salon team with exceptional retention.

We’ll explore:
✔️ The systems and structure behind long-term team stability
✔️ How to create an environment people don’t want to leave
✔️ Aligning team purpose with business goals
✔️ Retention as a measurable and intentional strategy

High performance isn’t accidental — it’s designed.

If you want to move from reactive to intentional leadership, this conversation will resonate.

GLP-1 medications & hair shedding: what you need to know

We’re seeing more questions about GLP-1 / GLP-1-GIP medications and hair changes.

This includes Wegovy®, Ozempic®, Rybelsus® (semaglutide), Mounjaro® / Zepbound® (tirzepatide), Saxenda® / Victoza® (liraglutide), plus others such as Trulicity®, Byetta®, Bydureon® and Lyxumia®.

Here’s the key point:
👉 In most cases, this is hair shedding — not permanent hair loss.

When shedding occurs, it most commonly fits telogen effluvium — a temporary, reactive shedding pattern triggered by physiological change, not by the medication directly damaging hair follicles.

GLP-1 medications can lead to reduced appetite and weight loss. For some people, the body interprets rapid weight change, reduced energy intake, or nutritional imbalance as a stressor — and hair growth is temporarily deprioritised.

Common triggers we see:

• Rapid or significant weight loss
• Low protein intake
• Low iron/ferritin, vitamin D, zinc, B12 or folate
• GI side effects reducing intake or absorption
• Shedding unmasking an underlying hair condition

Shedding usually starts weeks to months after the trigger, not immediately — and once the drivers are corrected, regrowth is expected.

If you’re experiencing shedding:
✔️ Don’t panic
✔️ Don’t stop medication without your prescriber
✔️ Focus on nutrition, protein and addressing deficiencies
✔️ Seek assessment if shedding is prolonged or pattern changes appear

Understanding the true trigger is what protects long-term hair health.

Clascoterone for Hair Loss — What We Know So Far 🔬🧠

You may have heard the buzz around Clascoterone, a topical anti-androgen originally approved for acne (as Winlevi). What’s new is that a higher-strength 5% scalp solution is now being tested for androgenetic alopecia — and early data is drawing a lot of attention.

Here’s a clear breakdown:

✅ Why scientists are interested
Clascoterone works by blocking androgens (like DHT) from binding to receptors in hair follicles. Since DHT plays a major role in pattern hair loss, this mechanism makes biological sense. The best part? It’s topical — meaning it aims to act locally without the systemic side effects seen with some oral treatments.

📊 Clinical results so far
Phase III studies in men showed statistically significant improvements in target-area hair count versus placebo. One study even reported a 539% relative improvement — meaning the treatment group gained far more hair than the placebo group, even though absolute numbers still depend on individual starting points.

💡 What this could mean
If approved, clascoterone may become the first new major topical hair-loss treatment in decades, offering an option for people who don’t tolerate or prefer not to use oral medications.

⚠️ But… important caveats
• It’s not yet approved for hair loss.
• Long-term safety and maintenance results are still pending.
• Works best when follicles are still viable — not in fully bald areas.
• Trials so far mainly focus on men; additional data will be needed for women.

This could be big for the future of hair-loss treatment — but it’s not quite here yet.
