Post-traumatic stress disorder – What is it?

Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is a mental health condition caused by very stressful, unexpected and frightening or distressing events.

Someone suffering with PTSD can relive the traumatic event through flashbacks, nightmares and may experience feelings of fear, anxiety, isolation, irritability, guilt or shame.

They may also have problems sleeping, concentrating and focusing which can impinge their day-to-day life. These symptoms can be severe and persistent enough to have a significant impact on a person's health and prevent them functioning as they would like....

There is a whole raft of terms used regarding the period, or menstruation and subsequently the menopause that create a complete misunderstanding and an unnecessary negative perception of what is happening.
