We’re delighted to share that the Tapestry and Mosaic created for the Health Innovation Hub will be on display at the Advanced Research Centre, University of Glasgow from tomorrow.

This special artwork brings together images and words that reflect what matters most to the community of Govan, with every tile and every stitch carefully created by both young people and adults from the community.

Blending themes of history, family, home and connection with ideas of healthcare innovation, the result is something truly meaningful and unique.

We’d love for you to come along, take some time to view the artwork, and, if you can, leave a comment in our book to share your thoughts and experience.

Another huge shout out to all community members and organisations involved, Gilded Lily and Impact Arts

All welcome along so please come and join us. 🤗

We had our second amazing working group — Group 2 — bringing together a fantastic group of community members to help develop a new policy and codes of practice for Public and Patient Involvement.

This has been such a positive way to ensure local voices are heard and truly shape the development of something new and meaningful. The enthusiasm in the room, along with the relationships being built, was nothing short of amazing, creating a space where everyone felt comfortable, confident and able to share their voice.

A huge thank you to every single person who took part, your openness, ideas and willingness to contribute are what make this work so special.

Thank you as well to Elderpark Housing Association Limited for your warm hospitality and for providing such a welcoming space for the session.

And a big thank you to all the groups who helped promote the working groups and bring people together: Gilded Lily, Charlotte CraftCafe, TEA in the POT - Women's Support Service, Govan Youth Information Project, Govan Community Project, Sunny Govan Community Radio, The Glasgow Barons Meet me in Govan and GalGael.

We’re really looking forward to the next sessions and continuing this journey together.

Please come along and join the third walk to Health Innovation Hub, enjoy a cup of tea or coffee and a chat afterwards.

We had such a lovely time visiting St Constantine’s School last week, spending the day with 44 of their wonderful P7 class as they finished their science topic on genes, inheritance and DNA before the Easter break 🧬

Our Clinical Innovation Fellow Elena McKee and STEM Engagement Officer Jessica began with a fun little warm-up, looking at traits like attached or detached earlobes and whether you can roll your tongue. It was a great way to get everyone smiling and thinking about how unique we all are! The class then shared what they already knew, with some fantastic ideas and discussions.

Elena built on this by talking about how our genetic information helps shape modern healthcare, including how it’s used in precision medicine and research projects like the PHOENIX trial at the University of Glasgow. The pupils were so engaged and asked brilliant questions throughout. 💛

To finish, everyone got creative making their own origami triple helix DNA models, a fun and hands-on way to bring everything they had learned to life.

At the Health Innovation Hub (HiH), we’re passionate about supporting local schools, helping connect classroom learning with cutting-edge research, and inspiring the next generation to explore careers in science and healthcare.

We’re so grateful to the staff and pupils at St Constantines, Govan for such a warm welcome, it’s always a joy to support local schools and see such enthusiasm for science

There’s a really special story behind the ultrasound scanner and it started right here in Glasgow.

It’s a story of people coming together from different worlds such as health, industry, and even art, to create something that would go on to change lives.

One of the most powerful moments in this journey was when a flaw detector, once used in the Govan shipyards to check ships for faults, was wheeled into a hospital. From that simple but brilliant idea, the first steps towards ultrasound imaging began.

Thanks to our partnership with Swg3, we’re now turning this into a digital story to help share it more widely. It’s been designed to be engaging, educational, and interactive, especially for schools and communities, so more people can discover this amazing piece of history.

A huge thank you to Mindray for supporting us recently at the Health Innovation Hub, where we hosted live demonstrations. It was fantastic to welcome schools and community members, and to see so much curiosity and interest in how ultrasound has developed over time.

We were also honoured to be joined by Professor Cameron, the only remaining member of the original team, whose stories and insight brought everything to life in such a meaningful way.

From its early beginnings to the technology we use today, it’s incredible to see how far things have come and to be able to share that journey with others.

Every stitch. Every tile. Every story. 🧵✨

Next Thursday, we’re delighted to share that the community-created tapestry and selected mosaic panels will be on display at the Advanced Research Centre, University of Glasgow (ARC).

This work is so much more than something to look at, it is something to feel, reflect on, and connect with.

Each stitch and every carefully placed piece of mosaic represents the uniqueness of an individual voice. Together, they form a powerful collective story and one that speaks to healthcare, innovation, and the importance of lived experience in shaping both.

From cultural moments such as Ramadan, to personal reflections on health, community, and the future of care, every detail holds meaning. These aren’t just materials, they are expressions of identity, creativity, and perspective. A reminder that innovation in healthcare doesn’t just come from technology, but from people, stories, and shared understanding.

If you’re visiting, why not make a morning or afternoon of it? You can enjoy a cup of tea and a slice of cake in the ARC café, and if you have time, take a short walk to the Hunterian Museum and Art Gallery to see the original ultrasound scanner, developed from a flaw detector used in the Govan shipyards. It’s a powerful link between Glasgow’s industrial heritage and world-changing healthcare innovation.

Over the coming weeks, we’ll be sharing closer looks at individual sections of the tapestry and mosaic while shining a light on the stories, creativity, and voices behind each piece.

We hope you can come along, take a moment, and maybe even see a little of yourself reflected in the work 💛
