Marking Anosmia Awareness Day 2025

https://www.smelltaste.org.uk/marking-anosmia-awareness-day-2025/
For 2025, SmellTaste’s Anosmia Awareness Day social media campaign focuses on some of the main issues around smell dysfunction. These are:

✅Anosmia, both congenital and acquired, and other smell and taste disorders are widely under-recognised
✅Smell loss can be an early indicator of serious conditions
✅Mental health can be seriously impacted by smell disorders
✅A high number of people with a traumatic brain injury experience smell loss
✅People with impaired smell can take simple and often free measures to stay safe at home

Celebrating its 14th year in 2025, Thursday 27 February is Anosmia Awareness Day. A mainstay on the SmellTaste calendar, this annual event serves as a catalyst for raising awareness about smell and taste disorders, an area in which SmellTaste is making significant progress, but there is still much w...

As the February half-term gets underway, NHS Somerset is urging residents to plan ahead to stay well over the school holidays.

Key advice includes ordering repeat prescriptions early via the NHS App, using community pharmacies for minor illnesses, and downloading the Handiapp for children's healthcare advice.

Community pharmacies and urgent care
Residents are advised to use their local pharmacy for over 40 minor health conditions. The Pharmacy First scheme offers prescription-only treatment for:

Sinusitis
Sore throat
Earache
Shingles
Impetigo
Infected insect bites
Uncomplicated urinary tract infections in women
For urgent but non-life-threatening issues like fractures, sprains or minor burns, Somerset Urgent Treatment Centres (UTCs) and Minor Injury Units (MIUs) are available. Residents are encouraged to check opening times online before visiting.

Mental health and family support
Support is also available for those facing mental health struggles, including the 24/7 Mindline Somerset service and Open Mental Health's Festive Wellbeing Kit.

Somerset Council continues to offer cost-of-living support, including:
Food pantries
Council Tax and housing payment help
Support for carers and the elderly
For children, parents are advised to download the Somerset Handiapp for advice on high temperatures, vomiting and other common concerns.

What to do in an emergency
Call 999 in a life-threatening situation
Use NHS 111 online or by phone for non-emergency advice
For urgent dental needs, call 111 for a referral to emergency care.

World Cancer Day is on 4 February 2026.

Every story counts
Cancer is more than just a medical diagnosis – it’s a deeply personal matter. Behind every diagnosis lies a unique human story – stories of grief, pain, healing, resilience, love and more. That’s why a people-centred approach to cancer care that fully integrates each individual’s unique needs, with compassion and empathy, leads to the best health outcomes.

February is Raynaud’s Awareness Month in the UK, organised by Scleroderma and Raynaud's UK (SRUK) to highlight a condition affecting up to 10 million people, causing cold-triggered numbness, pain, and color changes (white, blue, red) in extremities. It often affects fingers and toes, sometimes linked to underlying autoimmune conditions.

At SRUK we’re dedicated to empowering everyone affected by Scleroderma and Raynaud’s to live as full and unlimited a life as possible. Through research, awareness, information and support, we’re here to make a difference for anyone living with these conditions.
