The start of the New Year is a perfect time to set yourself small goals and try and get healthier and fitter!

Today is the start of National Obesity Awareness Week, 10th – 17th January 2026

Losing weight can be a struggle, but setting small goals can help you achieve and maintain your goals in the long term.
Here are some useful tips to help keep you on track:

*Get active every day 🚶
*Aim to eat five portions of fruit and vegetables daily 🍎 🥕
*Cut down on sugar, fat and salt 🧁🧂
*Read the coding on food labels – opt for green rather than red! 🚦
* Download the free NHS plan here: https://www.nhs.uk/better-health/lose-weight/

People are being warned of long waits at Hull’s Emergency Department (ED) unless they are a genuine medical emergency as Hull Royal Infirmary comes under pressure.

A surge of “walking wounded” and people with seasonal illnesses and viruses have been turning up at the hospital’s Emergency Care Area in recent days, putting emergency services and frontline teams under strain.

Don’t throw those empty tubs away - Tub2Pub is back for 2026!

Last year, Tub2Pub raised over £10k for us by recycling over 240,000 tubs. With your help, we can beat that record in 2026!

You have until 15th February 2026 to drop off your clean, empty plastic tubs at any participating Greene King Brewery pub, restaurant or hotel, and they’ll help recycle them for you.

The money raised from recycling the plastic helps fund Macmillan’s vital support services. ♻️
